'London Fashion Week' Favourites!

September 18th, 2008

S/S09 RTW KaneWell London fashion week is well under way! Just when we’re finally getting our heads around winter approaching and those winter trends, we have something to lift our spirits; a sneak preview of the Spring 09 collections!

Yes the likes of Stella Mc Cartney, Julien Mc Donald, Luella Bartley have all shown their collections but it was Christopher Kane that really set tongues wagging! Taking inspiration from ‘Planet of the Apes’ and the ‘Flinstones’ Kane produced another truly innovative and unique collection that featured 3D circles cut into organza and leather, gorilla prints and a fresh take on animal prints in bright and bold colours!

To see more form the fabulous Kane and the other designers showing at London fashion week, check out Style.com for lots of pics and reviews!

Amazing Blazers

September 18th, 2008

Miss Real Striped BlazerBlazers are a great way to take you through that awkward transition phase when it’s not quite cold enough to break out the winter coat, but a bit too nippy for just a cardigan or jumper. Wear a blazer over any outfit to give it an updated look, and give you a bit of warmth but not too much. Get a neutral colour and it’ll go with any outfit, casual or smart.

This Miss Real Striped Blazer has a great cut that compliments the stripes, would work well with a simple jeans and top or something smarter for the office. It’s on trend and interesting in itself, but is still subtle enough to be paired with any kind of print or detailing. Blazers are also great for evening wear when you don’t want to lug a coat around with you, but want something smart to finish off your outfit.

Available from Oli, the Blazer costs £50.

Fred Perry Fashion

September 15th, 2008

Fred Perry Peter Pan Collar Short Sleeve BlouseThe Fred Perry brand has had it’s ups and downs. The label started out as sportswear in 1940, inspired by Fred Perry, the last Englishman to win Wimbledon. However, in the 1960s and 70s the premium logo became more famous for being the brand of choice for some less than savoury members of society who wore cheap fakes rather than originals.

In recent years though, Fred Perry, as well as continuing it’s involvement in the tennis world by sponsoring British hopeful Andy Murray, has become a far more fashion-forward label. This season sees the brand launch a great range of clothes, including shirts, dresses, and an updated version of the infamous polo shirt.

This Peter Pan Collar Short Sleeve Blouse is a timeless white shirt that will work as a casual look teamed with jeans or an office look tucked into a skirt. The tailoring gives it a crisp, classic look and the peter pan collar is less severe. It’s available for £50 from ASOS, who also stock other pieces from the Fred Perry range.

The New Style Boot

September 15th, 2008

TopshopbambibootSo there’s a new boot in town. Not content with the knee high or over-knee variations, we now have the on-the-knee boot. Much more flattering to the leg, and in keeping with the drainpipe type shape the skinnie jean creates, the on-the-knee style keeps legs looking longer and is the latest look for Autumn.

I am personally a big fan – they create very straight drain pipe looking legs which give a bit of a tom-boy type feel. By ending at the knee you loose the natural curve of the leg and therefore these give a very sharp look – great for the tough looks next season!

Get yours from Topshop for £95.

Designer v Highstreet: The Check Coat

September 14th, 2008

River Island Check CoatMarc by Marc Jacobs Plaid CoatI love the current check trend and the cute coats such as these, that are hitting the shops as a result.

If you’re a real fan of checks then a quick way to incorporate them into your wardrobe and get to wear them lots is to get yourself checked coat for next season.

The two picks are very different in price. The purple and blue double breasted coat on the left is just £69.99 from River Island – a real bargain. I love the military feel with the buttons and high collar.

However, if you have more cash to splash then perhaps head over to Net-a-Porter where you can buy this blue and black Marc by Marc Jacobs Domino plaid coat for £485. I love domino style check and the stud accent detailing on the buttons are bang on trend.

Keep Warm for Less

September 11th, 2008

Oli Cocoon CoatLike it or not, summer is well and truly over, and it’s time to bite the bullet and embrace winter clothes. A coat is without doubt an essential winter wardrobe staple, but it’s also usually the item to hit the bank balance hardest.

Oli have just got this great Cocoon Coat in. It’s mainly made of wool, so it’ll definitely keep out the chill, and the cocoon shape creates a great silhouette, especially with the belt tied. It’s also got cuffed sleeves, a nice big collar and great big pockets – perfect for keeping gloves in. It comes in grey, which I think makes a nice change from boring old black.

So what’s the damage to your bank balance? A lot less than most coats on the high street will set you back. At only £60, this is a super cheap price for a coat that’ll see you all the way through winter in style and warmth! Snap up this bargain now at Oli.

Circus Tophats!

September 11th, 2008

Topshop Circus Tophats!I don’t know if you have noticed the unusual circus theme that has taken over the Topshop flagship store in Oxford Street, but it is producing some strange trends that should never have been pursued!

Take for example the Top hat, ok this is a new trend that the likes of Kate Moss and Rachel Bilson can get away with, but I think Topshops version of the Top hat can not be made to look even slightly cool by these stunning stars, so what chance have we got!

The only place I would wear this hat is to a fancy dress, so if you happen to be going to a circus themed fancy dress party these hats may just come in handy, they are available today online from Topshop and cost £20!

Graphic Knits!

September 11th, 2008

Chunky Patterned KnitsIm afraid it is coming to that time of year when we all need to start investing in a chunky winter knit to guard off those wintery chills! This year I don’t want a boring grey or black knit to match our boring grey weather, I thought I would brighten up my winter wardrobe with one of these geometric print knits!

The first knit on the left is a Missoni Ciclamino belted cardigan, the pinky hues will look fab with denim and the striking zig zag pattern really funks up the simple cardi, this knit can be purchased from net a porter for £705. If your budget doesn’t quite stretch to this, take a peek at this chunky graphic cardi from French connection, it looks ultra cosy and the print once again jazzes it up nicely! Buy yours online for £125!

Last but not least is this folk inspired sweater by Philosophy Di Alberta Ferretti, I really like the autumnal colours in this knit, it would look great with a pair of jeans and Uggs, you can purchase this jumper online from net a porter.

Ballerina's in Fashion?

September 11th, 2008

Ballerina PumpsSo how many you own a pair of ballerina pumps? Probably most of you, although I’m not a fan of the shoe (I think they make your legs look stumpy) I have to admit I do have a pair just because they’re so comfy and practical!

Now it seems the latest trend on the pump scene is ballerina shoes, I spotted this pair of ballerina shoes when I went to Topshop recently and couldn’t believe that the shoe we all know well especially if you did dance when you were younger is actually becoming fashionable, whatever next!

This particular pair has a cute ribbon tie and comes in an array of colours, to find out more go to Topshop online!

New Kate Moss!

September 11th, 2008

Kate Moss A/W 08Kate Moss is back with another winning autumn/winter collection for Topshop. Once again the multi millionaire model looks absolutely stunning in every piece of her collection, which makes us want it even more! Think feminine chiffon blouses and frilly dresses meets biker chic, with this season must have leathers and fur gilets.

Prints are inspired by nature, for example feather prints and apple prints cover t shirts and dresses, however you can also get a t shirt with Kate Moss’s face printed on the front, mmmm, I’m not that much of a fan!

Above are just a few of my favourites from the collection, I love the fringed jacket (top right) this costs £60, the navy faux fur gilet below costs £50 and lastly the very cute feather frill dress costs £60. Check out more from Kate moss on Topshop online.
