ASOS/ London Sketchbook team up

Thursday, March 19th, 2009

ASOS City of Dreams TeeVests and tees with photo prints on are all over the high street at the moment, and they’re great for wearing with leggings or jeans and layering with another vest underneath, or cardigans on top for a casual but interesting look.

ASOS have teamed up with London Sketchbook to create this City of Dreams Tee. It’s a classic vest shape, and nice a long so fine for wearing with leggings. the print covers the whole of the front, and features a Victorian inspired street scene. More excitingly, it features a quote from the poet W.B. Yeats, which reads ‘tread softly because you tread on my dreams’. so not only is it on-trend, but you can impress everyone with your literature knowledge.

It’s exclusive to ASOS, costs £22, and is available now.

Military Cardy

Monday, March 16th, 2009

ASOS Military CardiganAlways a fan of ASOS, I love it when their weekly newsletter appears in my inbox, usually with at least one piece I want immediately.

This week, at the top of my wish list is this military style cardigan. The half length sleeves are perfect for the warmer weather ahead and the cropped length and nipped in style make a nice change form the more bulky type cardies around.

Team with skinnies and sky high heels for and easy chic feel, and when it comes to accessorising, oversized earrings would be too much, beads would interfere, but a stack of chunky bangles would balance out the shorter length sleeves and keep the accessory as far from the interest on the cardy as possible making it work.

You can pick one for £29.50.

Preppy Returns!

Thursday, March 12th, 2009

Preppy ReturnsWith the return of the blazer there’s been a comeback of all things preppy, and it’s a great look to go from winter to spring, as you can layer up with shirts, jumpers, and of course, a blazer.

This trend hasn’t really hit the high street properly yet, but here’s a few items already on the shelves. If you really want to embrace the preppy look, a pair of loafers are key, and these Karla Penny Loafers have got all the key features – brown leather, tassels, and the classic shape. They cost £45.

A shirt is also key – wear it tucked in for ultra preppy, or loose for a more casual feel. This Neutral Stripe Shirt, £22, from Dorothy Perkins, is a great mix for casual and smart, with a soft collar and roll up sleeves.

Finally, the ultimate preppy accessory, a satchel, and sadly these don’t come cheap if you’re looking for a full size, 100% leather one. However, on a smaller, cheaper scale, ASOS come to the rescue with this cute Painted Leather Satchel for £28. You might not be able to carry your entire life around in it, but it’s definitely big enough for the essentials.

So if preppy’s your thing, then hunt out those old episodes of The OC and get ready for the come back!

Fringed Waistcoat

Wednesday, March 11th, 2009

Next Suede Fringed WaistcoatIf fringing is your thing or you plan to embrace the western trend next season then you may be in need of this little fringed waistcoat.

Look to Hermes, Givenchy and Allessandro Dell’Acqua for inspiration on how to work this trend – where you find everything from western bondage to simply western style trimmings to inspire you.

Team with acid stone wash jeans and a tunic and when the weather warms up simply throw over a white cotton dress and gladiator sandals for a laid back look.

You can pick this up from Next for £35 (where you can also bag the other items in the picture – the tunic is £32 and the high-waisted jeans are £28).

Handy Office Wear

Sunday, March 8th, 2009

ASOS Pussy Bow TopGreat for those bleary weekday mornings, this top is a great option for the work wardrobe as it is made from 100% viscose – no ironing required!

The pussy bow smartens up this choice of casual material and the three quarter length sleeves makes this a great transitional piece as the weather gets warmer.

Tuck into a pencil skirt for a smooth silhouette and pair with killer heels and a suitably coiffed hair do for a smart, sophisticated look.

Also available in grey/nude (for a slightly more vintage feel) you can pick one up for £17.75 from ASOS.

Create Your Own Slogan Tee

Tuesday, March 3rd, 2009

I Love BoxieI am a real fan of plain simple graphic tee’s and have just come across a great T shirt label called I Love Boxie.

They have tons of slogan tees all in a typewriter type style. Each slogan has a story behind it and they even have a service called T Spoke whereby you can tell them a story that you would like on your T shirt and they will come up with a line and make it up for you. This service is £32 or $44.

For a regular T Shirt from their catalogue they charge £23 or $32.

Check out this link for their designs and here for their T Spoke service.

Sequin Vest

Friday, February 27th, 2009

Stella McCartney Sequin tankSequins, as we know, are set to remain as popular as ever next season, and I love this simple sequin-sprayed vest by Stella McCartney.

Covering another two separate trends – make-up tones and sheer materials, this is one trend ticking top!

Its simplicity and relaxed racer-back shape make it a great daywear item (not easy when dealing with sequins) as well as providing a lovely laid back look for eveningwear.

Team with stonewash skinnies, sky-high heels, a clutch and statement earrings for a relaxed evening look. Mix it up by throwing over a floral jacket to keep the look contemporary. Swap the clutch for an oversized weekend tote and throw over a cropped jacket for daytime chic.

You can pick this item up over at Net-a-porter for £425.

80s With A Twist

Tuesday, February 24th, 2009

80s Print TeesThe 80s revival is most definitely in full swing, and the easiest way to get on board with this trend is a retro print tee. If, however, you’re a bit bored of seeing tees emblazoned with Debbie Harry or AC/DC then there’s a couple of slightly more unique ones that’ll make you stand out and have a quirky take on the trend.

First up is this Prince When Doves Cry shirt – made more interesting by the fact it actually says Prince on it – not The Artist Formaly Known As, or that wierd scribble he used for a while. The acid wash effect on the shirt is also bang on trend, and the grey colour will match pretty much anything. It costs £32 and is available from Urban Outfitters.

If you want to channel one of the ulitmate 80s icons, then try this Grace Jones Tank from Topshop, featuring the iconic lady herself. This oversized vest can be worn with anything – but would look great with some wet-look leggings and high heels for a night out. It costs £18.

There are loads of other great 80s graphic tees out now, so keep your eyes peeled!

Karen Millen Chord Embroidered Blouse

Friday, February 20th, 2009

Karen Millen BlouseKaren Millen’s spring summer collection is full of gorgeous styles and looks but one of my favourites is this coral colour silk satin blouse.

The satin corsages nod to the floral trend without being too literal, and the pin tucked sleeves and high neck keep the sheer fabric looking chic and feminine.

This is a great transitional piece – can be worn with a cardy whilst the weather is still cool and will take you right through spring and into most of summer until it gets too hot (I wish!)

It will set you back £99 so it’s a little pricey for a blouse, but it is beautiful.

Follow the White Rabbit..

Thursday, February 12th, 2009

Truly Madly Deeply White Rabbit ShirtGraphic print tees are a great way to update your weekend wardrobe, or perfect for looking stylish and quirky but casual at the same time, and Urban Outfitters currently have a great selection.

Classic band logo t-shirts are starting to look a little dated unless it’s the latest buzz band, in which case they’ll be out of fashion again in two weeks, so quirky prints are the way to go. This Truly Madly Deeply shirt features the White Rabbit from Alice in Wonderland in a black print on a white tee. It’s a big, bold print that’s sure to attract attention, and the over-sized fit of the shirt means you can wear it loads of different ways – with jeans, leggings, and with another top underneath if you want to layer up.

It costs £28 and is availabel from the Urban Outiftters website or instores now.
