Tuesday, May 26th, 2009

ASOs Black Chiffon Petal DressAfter having a taste of summer this weekend, and scrambling to find something to wear, it’s time to well and truly get started on that summer wardrobe.

As part of the romantic/innocence trend, ruffles were big news on the catwalk, and their delicate but statement feel is perfect for a carefree summer look.

From the new ASOS Black collection is this Chiffon Petal Dress. Combining a honey dew colour and an asymmetrical ruffle effect, this is the perfect summer dress. the racer back stops is being too dressy – it would work for day or night. the lightweight ruffles shimmer nicely when you move. Team it with some matching accessories to complete the look, or toughen it up with some statement shoes.

It costs £85 and is available from ASOS now.

Dorothy Perkins Metallic Strappy High HeelsThere’s been a bit of a buzz about the high street recently – it seems we’re all realising that, when times are hard, we can still count on the high street to come good with the bargains.

Dorothy Perkins have just launched a new range of shoes for the summer – so you can pick up the latest designer trends for even cheaper than normal. If you’re looking for a pair of statement shoes that’ll see you through to winter, have a look at their Metallic Strappy High Heels. There’s also a hint of the gladiator look about them, which is making a come back. Match them with any outfit for an instant tougher look.

They cost £38, a definite budget friendly price for shoes, and you can find them in Dorothy Perkins stores or on the website.

Reiss Camille GladiatorMost of the highstreet gladiator style shoes that are around are more suited to play rather than work, but these exposed platforms from Reiss are smart enough to work for the office too.

SS09 Trend – Granny Chic

Thursday, April 23rd, 2009

Monsoon Fusion Oriental Garden DressAccording to Gok on Tuesday night, and several other reliable sources Granny chic is coming our way this summer – think cardigans, florals, twin sets and pearls.

A follow on from the heritage trend we saw during winter, this vintage inspired look is definitely a feminine one – think garden parties not a kick about in the park.

The Fusion range from Monsoon is designed to be a bit more budget friendly than their usual rather extravagant prices, and they’ve got the perfect Granny chic dress for under £50. This Oriental Garden Dress is a grey cotton dress with floral design looks like it could’ve been pulled straight out of the attic, and the lined skirt makes it more substantial than a flimsy summer dress. The big bow at the back finishes it off nicely, and the slight open back gives it a modern twist.

It costs £48 and is available from the Monsoon website now.

Designer v Highstreet: The Cut-out Swimsuit

Thursday, April 23rd, 2009

The Cut-out SwimsuitCut-out swimsuits are set to be even more popular this summer than they were last year. I personally can’t quite understand their allure as they are so impractical for the beach. Unless you are sitting completely in the shade you can expect to get some seriously dodgy tan marks.

I’ve heard this trend coined as ‘cocktail beachwear’ which seems to translate as another holiday activity; i.e. time must be made to sit in the shade and simply pose in your costume. Well, if you have the figure and a good book, why not, I guess!

I love the designer version which is by one of my favourite designers, Michael Kors. It features a really gorgeous cut-out necklace neckline which looks particularly stunning when you add a low v-neck kaftan to show it off even when layering up. At £140 its not too bad a price for such an esteemed label.

The highstreet option is a white shimmer paparazzi cut-out tie side swimsuit by Vitamin A. At £125 it is only a smidge cheaper than the Michael Kors designer version though. It features a shimmering gold lining, which is made visible via the side ties.

To hit the poolside chic trend perfectly, accessorise your cut-out costume with a few chunky bangles on one arm, huge shades, and sky high wedges. You can pick up the Designer version from Net-a-porter and the Highstreet option from Figleaves.

Pretty Flirty Skirt

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009

Reiss Kat Origami SkirtI am such a fan of Reiss’s Spring / Summer 09 collection and adore this origami ribbon detailing mini skirt.

From the ruffles to the muted colour tones, it’s trend-ticking and totally gorgeous.

What’s more, it also comes in an eye catching ‘deep sky blue’ which to me, looks like a really intense cornflower blue – which would look seriously stunning set off against some tanned legs.

This season features some major feminine dressing – from the swathes of dresses strutting down the catwalks one after another, to the ruffles and make-up tones, and this is a great piece to embrace the trend with.

Available from Reiss is costs £110.

First The Bucket, Now The Barrel

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009

ASOS Barrel BagAs we all know big trends this summer will be western and safari and what better to top off your looks than with this leather weave detail barrel bag.

I love the unsual shape (is it just me or did any other kids of the 1980’s have lots of barrel shaped bags as children?) My Care Bear and Rainbow Bright barrel bags were my particular favourites!

The long shoulder strap means you can wear it across the body as well as over the shoulder.

Great for teaming with a plain safari style shirt shift and anything from floral skirts to stone wash denim, you can grab one from ASOS for £28.

Limited Edition Re-worked Vintage Pieces

Sunday, April 19th, 2009

Renewal Cap Sleeve DressRenewal are a label that create pieces on a limited edition basis that are made from vintage trims, buttons and discontinued/vintage textiles and I love what they come up with.

Check out Urban Outfitters for their work, such as this contrast cap sleeve dress. It features an empire line, contrast graphic print and block colour (a key trend this season) and girly peep hole button neck.

Wear with undone hair, flat plimsoles and minimal jewellery for a laid back weekend summer style.

You can pick this dress up from Urban Outfitters for £55.

Cute Summer Skirt

Saturday, April 18th, 2009

River Island Bubble-SkirtI really like this sweet little baby blue bubble-skirt from River Island. Prefect for lazy summer days or quirking up with coloured tights for spring it’s a piece that can offer a lot of wear over the coming months.

I’m also a fan of the items River Island have suggested you team with this piece: just tuck in a simple lemon vest and throw on some plain white plimsoll style shoes for an easy going summer look.

Great for creating an hour-glass silhouette, these type of skirts sit on the narrowest part of the waist and is also very forgiving of pear shape figures.

Available for £24.99 from River Island, it’s a great reasonably priced piece.
