The Flat Sole Gladiator

Monday, January 26th, 2009

Topshop Hectic Zip Back GladiatorsAs per last year, the flat sole gladiator is set to be a fashion staple this summer, and this pair from Topshop is on the top of my list.

At £25 this gladiator sandal is 100% leather and features a stylish zip back detail. As well as the fetching gunmetal colour I love the multi straps which feature some cut out detailing, making these seriously trend-ticking for your toes!

Perfect for throwing on with anything from a floral dress to stonewash denim or your LBD these will seamlessly take you through the whole summer and beyond.

Pick yourself up a pair of these Hectic Zip Back Gladiators from Topshop here.

S/S 09 Trend: Western

Sunday, January 25th, 2009

ASOS Leather Tie ShoeA slightly tricky trend to get right next season has is Western, which will be making a mark in the form of fringed dresses, worn-in washed-out denim and fringed leather.

If you want to embrace the trend then try not to do so literally – that means no to the Givenchy inspired leather chaps, and leave your Stetson at the door. Instead, play down the look with one Western style item paired with simple ordinary pieces.

These shoes are a perfect way to enjoy the trend – the contrast zig-zig edging and ankle cuff design discretely nod to the western trend without being too full on.

You can pick these up from ASOS for £39.50

The Snakeskin Gladiator

Tuesday, January 20th, 2009

River Island Snakeskin GladiatorA key item for the closet this spring / summer has to be the snakeskin gladiator. For heels this summer, snakeskin is the number one trend and gladiator styles will remain just as popular as ever and are great for toughening up shifts and floral dresses, which are also set to be huge.

I adore this pair from River Island, they have everything going for them – the shoe boot style, the mid heel, the light golden beige snakeskin which is perfect for teaming with the aforementioned make-up colours and the wooden heal which lends itself for the new exoticism trend with it’s earthy textures – I can’t fault them.

What’s more the elegant drop-cut of the top strap helps to combat any possible unsightly ‘cankles’ and at £68.50 they’re not a bad price either.

Get yours whilst there’s still some left!

January £50 Challenge

Friday, January 9th, 2009

january50challenge.gifJanuary is a bit of a tough month for fashion. Still dealing with the Christmas/New Year binge on dresses and all things sparkly, and with Spring/Summer collections just around the corner, new clothes seem like a bit of an extravagance. But with our January £50 challenge you can chase away those January blues and still be in pocket!

This month we’ve produced the antidote to squeezing yourself into those LBDs over Christmas – a casual weekend look.

First up, some classic Wide Leg Black trousers with a Bow Detail. They’ll hide all multitude of Christmas sins, and are a comfy but stylish alternative to jeans. They cost just £15 from ASOS now (sale ends Sunday), and as you can see from the picture, look great with spiky heels.

And here are the perfect spiky heels! For just £15 you can get these Royal Layered Metallic Shoes from Topshop. Metallic look set to make a comeback next season, and these shoes are perfect for dressing up or down.

So that leaves £20 for a top, and Warehouse have this cute Purple Bow Cardi in their sale. The over-sized buttons and bow detail make this way more interesting then a plain black jumper or cardi, and the tight fit will complement the wide leg trousers.

£50 well spent on an outfit to help you ease through January feeling well dressed but not over spent!

Mui Mui Shoes

Miu Miu Bow Front PumpsIf you fancy treating yourself to some lovely new shoes this Christmas then look no further than these Miu Miu Bow-front pumps. As always with Miu Miu they’re the ultimate the style, quality, and just that little bit of quirkiness.

These black patent pumps have got a semi-sensible sized heel on them, so you can get away with wearing them to the office,at weekends, and in the evening as well.

The cute bow on the front and bright pink sole add something different to a plain black heel, and they’re definitely the most covetable shoe I’ve seen in a while. They’d be great for seeing you into the party season and all the way into the new year with their timeless quality.

Being Miu Miu, these babies don’t come cheap, and a pair will set you back £269, but if you do invest in a pair I can’t ever imagine wanting to take them off!

You can get them at Net A Porter now.

Designer v Highstreet: The Cross Over Platform

Friday, November 21st, 2008

Cross Over PlatformsPlatforms are really popular right now and I especially love these ruched patent shoes from Net-a-porter by Burberry. Slick and glossy these are real eye catchers, and looked great when showcased at Burberry’s A/W 08 catwalk earlier this year. The cross over detailing falls just below the ankle, which in turn gives the impression of elongating the leg and totally avoids the awful ‘cankle’ syndrome ankle straps so often bring!

The cone shape heel and peep toe details really set the shoes off and combine really well the mix of hard and soft and gritty and feminine in one hit, which is so popular right now.

At £350 they are a little pricey so the highstreet version from ASOS makes a cheaper alternative. At just £30 they come in black or purple and these strappy satin stilettos feature a similar cross over detail as well as zip back fastening and concealed platform.

Leopard Print Peep Toes

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008

Animal Print ShoesIf you’re looking to update your partywear without spending too many pennies over the festive season, then you may be wise to simply update your shoe collection rather than go to the expense of buying a brand new dress!

Leopard print is still a popular staple style this season, especially when applied to accessories, and these peep toes from Tesco are just £10 and a real bargain.

What’s more they are glam enough for a night out but also provide a staple item for daywear too, so unlike most party pieces you’ll get lots more wear from this investment than just the one night.

Sultry Satin Pumps

Monday, November 17th, 2008

Charlotte Olympia Paloma PumpsOn the subject of fabulous festive shoes, I have to make mention of these super sultry red satin pumps from Charlotte Olympia. These 6 inch heels sit on a 1.5 inch platform and have all the drama in the world!

The height and pointed toe give them an unspoken attitude, yet the pleated ruffles adorning each heel provide a flirtatious and soft allure needed to keep these bad boys in check!

As net-a-porter quite rightly put it , you need to ‘dress from the feet upwards with these,’ so with all the focus landing at your feet go for something understated and sleek to match.

You can pick these up from Net-a-porter for £395.

Festive Feather Footwear

Monday, November 17th, 2008

Karen Millen Feather ShoesKaren Millen has really pulled out all the stops with their eveningwear collection this season, and if you are looking for a fab frock and have a goodly sized budget (dresses are around the £180 mark), then it’s worth a good look. No dress however can get away without a fabulous pair of shoes, and these are a seriously fit for festive merriment!

I love the side on feather detailing and the all important black satin material. If budget is an issue I would be tempted to just throw on last years LBD and invest in these instead. At £120 they are a little steep, but if you buy them from ASOS this week you can get 20% off* and nab them for £96!

*The 20% discount applies to selected brand items so could get your Christmas party outfit sorted this week and pick up a bargain in the process!
