Channeling the Eighties

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008

ASOS Premium Sequinned JumperThis Premium Sequinned Jumper from ASOS is perfect for capturing the vintage trend without trawling through lots of funny smelling shops! The sequinned flash stripes has a great eighties feel to it, and the loose cut means you can wear it over something for a casual look. The ribbed waist detail also means it’ll sit nicely over jeans. Although it’s short sleeved, you can always wear it over a long sleeved top, either a black one, or maybe a red or purpley/pink one to highlight the colours on the jumper.

For a smarter look, this jumper would look great teamed with some shiny leggings or leather skinnies. Reduced from £45 to only £27.41, this is a bit of a bargain!

Head over to ASOS to pick it up.

Winter Warmer

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008

ASOS Long Intarsia CardiganNow the cold snap has well and truly hit, it’s chunky knits and long sleeves from here on in. This ASOS Long Inarsia Cardigan is definitely a winter warmer, with a cute snowflake design that’s perfect for Christmas. The neutral cream and black colours and long length means it can be worn with jeans or leggings, and any colours. The belted waist can be tied at the back for an open look, or tie it at the front to keep out the winter chill.

This cardigan ties in with the boyfriend cardi trend we’ve seen on the high street, and although it looks like it’s made of wool, it’s actually acrylic so it won’t leave fluff all over your favourite black skinnies.

At only £35, this is a good price for a piece that’ll keep you warm and cosy for the next few months, and you can pick it up from ASOS now.

Feminine Basic Jumper

Wednesday, November 19th, 2008

Scoop Neck Button Detail JumperI love this basic pullover from ASOS – it’s hard to get simple jumpers which don’t overly swamp the body and have a little interest to them, and this one ticks those boxes nicely.

The long multi button detailing and the fitted rib features along the arms are really chic and the longline style and deep scoop neck keeps what is essentially a basic jumper, feminine and flirtatious.

Wear as you like, or take a leaf out of Stella McCartney’s A/W 07 collection last year and wear brazen and braless.

Available in mink, black red or cornflower, this soft cotton mix pullover costs just £25 and can be picked up from ASOS.

M&S Pom Pom Socks

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008

M&S Pom Pom SocksIf you’ve seen the new Christmas M&S advert, you may like me, rather fancy the look of the cute knitted pom pom socks which Noemie Lenoir sports towards the end of the ad (whilst flitting down the stairs, icecream tub in hand).

I am already planning what I’ll be wearing on Christmas Day and as comfort is top of my list I’ll be sure to bag a pair of these babies!

These knee high socks look super soft and will be perfect for keeping toes warm cosy all day.

What’s more I’ll get loads of wear out of them besides – apart from nesting in the home they’ll look great tucked into wellies too. You can pick up yours from M&S for just £8!

The Ultimate V-Neck

Tuesday, November 11th, 2008

Oli V-Neck JumperI’ve noticed a distinct lack of good jumpers this season – they’re either huge chunky knits that are too cold to wear by themselves and too bulky for a coat to go over, or they’ve got short sleeves- a bit of a flaw for a jumper I think!

However, just before I freeze to death I think I’ve found the perfect V-neck Jumper from Oli. It’s got long sleeves, but will go over or under pretty much anything. The boyfriend style means it’s a flattering length, and won’t ride up. The V-neck isn’t too deep either, so you can wear it with nothing underneath without being indecent.

It comes in pretty much every shade imaginable: Black, Canary, Cocoa, Dusty Candy, Grey Marl, Powder Blue, Purple, Sage and Winter White. They cost £18 or £15 depending on colour, but be quick, as some sizes have already sold out.

The Draped Cardy

Sunday, November 9th, 2008

Miu Miu Draped CardiganOversized cardigans are obviously really popular right now, and this is one of my favourites. This Miu Miu Draped shoulder cardigan is super chic; long and tapered at the waist this is a standard oversized grey cardy, but what I like is the lack of ‘bulk’ – chunky knits are great but can look a little ungainly so this elegant piece is great for keeping your outfit streamlined.

The draped shoulders are a great feature and add a nice bit of interest to an ordinary wardrobe basic. This could be worn over almost anything, but keep on trend by wearing over a floral tea dress or throw on over the top of a vintage tee and skinny jeans.

Wardrobe Basic – The Oversized Sweater

Friday, October 10th, 2008

Vanessa Bruno Athe Oversized SweaterI am as always a major fan of Vanessa Bruno – she’s my ‘go to’ designer for wardrobe basics inspiration and I love this new oversized cable-knit sweater from her diffusion line Vanessa Bruno Athé, which is brimming with essential wardrobe basics.

Made from a crème alpaca and wool blend, this oversized sweater features batwing sleeves a real cosy appeal.

For the small busted just throw over a turtle neck and team with skinnies and knee high boots, for the more curvaceous you may want to loose the turtle neck and throw a belt over the top to pull it all in.

The Vanessa Bruno Athé Oversized cable-knit sweater is available at Net-a-porter for £200.

The Jumper That Thinks it's a Shirt

Tuesday, October 7th, 2008

ASOS Tie Neck Pussy Bow JumperI’m a big advocate of the lightweight jumper – they’re comfy, not too warm, not too cold, and all you need to do is pull them on and go. But they do seem to have a nasty habit of looking a bit scruffy – it’s almost impossible to look anything but casual in one. I think ASOS might have solved the problem though, with this Tie Neck Pussy Bow Jumper. The pussy bow has been big news for a while now, but it’s generally only seen on shirts. However, adding the detail to this jumper, the bow instantly makes it look smarter, as do the cuffed sleeves.

At 75% cotton though we’re definitely still in jumper territory, and it could still be worn loose with jeans, or simply tuck it into a skirt and you’ve got yourself a smarter look, but one that you won’t freeze to death in.

At £25 this is a pretty good bargain for a jumper, and it’s available in purple, green (as shown) or charcoal, available from ASOS.

Chunky Knits

Thursday, October 2nd, 2008

Chunky Knit Long CardyI really like this taupe wool chunky knit long cardy and belt combo by Malene Birger. Quite often I find, chunky knits can look a bit young and a bit too unkempt. However, this offering is really stylish and neat and could be used for so many different looks and occasions.

For a start I think it’s smart enough for an office look – combined with a smart white shirt, killer heels and harem style trousers it would be powerful and stylish (and secretly nice and cosy). Yet it is perfect for weekend-wear too – thrown over skinnies and a black white tee it can do comfy and casual whilst still feeling gown up and polished or wrap around a floaty dress you can still get some wear out of your tea dresses and stay warm at the same time.
