Cute Party Frock

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008

Elizabeth and James Ruffle Mini DressI think this ruffle mini dress by Elizabeth and James is simply gorgeous. Perfect for the festivities, it features a snow cotton blend and contrasting asymmetrical one shoulder strap with ruffle detailing.

The pleated panels give this dress great movement for the dance floor and the gathered material is great for concealing any Christmas over indulgencies around the middle are. What’s more the ruffle feature and contrast colour will bring the attention to your upper half as well.

Team as the Olsen twins would themselves with tough items such a slim-fit sculpted leather bomber and towering chunky leather heels.

This dress is available from Net-a-porter for £360.

The Signature Corset Top

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008

D&G Corset TopI love Dolce and Gabbana, and would love to indulge in a little something from their collection, and I was rather surprised to come across this little item on Net-a-porter this week. For just £175 you can nab yourself this signature D&G corset top.

What I love about this item is that for me, it sums up D&G. The lace panelled trim and exposed zip at the back are both details that make this item of the moment. However, the sensual tailoring and sexy undertones are very typical of D&G’s designs. Madonna is a big fan (once having them design most to her costumes for one of her tours) and this is absolutely something you could have seen her wear back in the day.

Perfect for teaming with skin tight jeans, a tux jacket and towering heels, this is bang on trend yet will never date. If you wish to pick yourself up a slice of D&G, head over to Net-a-porter today.

Primark Party PieceIf you are looking for a bargain statement dress then look no further than this little number from Primark. You can can nab yourself this exposed zip tulip dress for just £14!

Wear, as styled in the image, with concealed lace up platforms and opaque tights for an on trend look (both items are available from Primark also, at £12 and £2 respectively (that’s just £28 for the whole outfit!))

The exposed zip and tulip shape are on trend and edgy making this a great little bargain for anyone wanting a young, fresh and punk-esque look!

The Square Dress

Monday, November 24th, 2008

Vivienne Westwood Square DressI love Vivienne Westwood’s Anglomania label (a diffusion line). The pieces are designed for everyday and are great for adding a bit of her iconic style to your closet at a more realistic price. Take this square dress – the draped tailoring is stunning and very reminiscent of the gorgeous Vivienne Westwood navy pin strip suit that Carrie wore in Sex and The City to her lunch with boss at Vogue.

Perfect for day or night this is a great one piece for work – just team with super high heels and for night just add glossy statement accessories. As this is a very soft and feminine piece you could add tough studded accessories to keep the look on trend for this season.

Features include a detachable self tie waist belt, buttons to fasten the neck and a cowl neckline. This is available fro £270 from Net-a-Porter today.

The Backless Body Con

Thursday, November 20th, 2008

ASOS Body Con DressIf you are after a show stopping dress this season and don’t mind flashing a little flesh then this could be the dress for you! Reminiscent of the much talked about All Saints dress big brother contestant Stephanie wore on her entry to the house earlier this year, this is a figure hugging body con dress with serious sex appeal.

Backless and with blatant naughtiness, it features a saucy little zip at the rear, stretch fabric cross over straps and on the front; zip pockets and a sweetheart neckline.

This dress won’t be forgotten in a hurry and is a real statement piece and at just £55 by Firetrap is a bit of a bargain too. If you have a back worth showing off and the confidence to strut your stuff, you can pick this up from ASOS today.

The Sequin Dress: My Top Picks

Thursday, November 20th, 2008

Sequin DressesFor the ultimate party dress you want to be stepping out this festive season top to toe in sequins. There are a huge number of such items on the both the highstreet and in designer stores to choose from, so here’s my top picks; from the high end pricey to the mid range to the down right bargain.

If you’ve got the cash to flash and are a fan of Stella McCartney then you can’t go wrong with her silk sequin sprayed shift style dress (dress on left). In a beautiful mink colour, this is sure to dazzle the crowds, yet the simple slash neck shape will keep you covered and understated. At £1,695 it’s an investment piece and should you wish to invest you can pick one up from Net-a-porter.

Mid-range is this beautiful number from Rachel Gibson (dress in centre). At £515 from Net-a-porter it’s less than half the price of my top range pick and is in my opinion every bit as beautiful. The spray on sequins in chevron stripes give a fresh and wild feel and the cut out detailing on the back give this a softer edge.

Lastly we have the bargain from the highstreet, a red asymmetric one shoulder sequin dress from Dorothy Perkins (dress on right). At just £25 this is an affordable option for buying into a trend on a one off. With one of the key colours this season this dress along with the other options would make fabulous festive frocks!

Wardrobe Staple – the LBD

Wednesday, November 19th, 2008

ASOS Pencil DressIf you are looking to invest in a new party dress that will last you for years to come and you’d like to keep to a reasonable price then this may be the little black dress for you!

This simple black satin pencil dress with a sweetheart neckline is a classic shape that will not date and you could get tons of wear out of over the coming years. The best bit is the price tag, at £38 it is far less than most of the party dresses I’ve seen this season and is a great wardrobe staple too.

It also comes in a jewel red colour and both versions would look great with a chunky leather belt worn under the bust line and some killer heals.

The dress also features a boned front and panel detailing as well as a chic concealed zip at the back. You can pick one up from ASOS online.

Leopard Print Peep Toes

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008

Animal Print ShoesIf you’re looking to update your partywear without spending too many pennies over the festive season, then you may be wise to simply update your shoe collection rather than go to the expense of buying a brand new dress!

Leopard print is still a popular staple style this season, especially when applied to accessories, and these peep toes from Tesco are just £10 and a real bargain.

What’s more they are glam enough for a night out but also provide a staple item for daywear too, so unlike most party pieces you’ll get lots more wear from this investment than just the one night.

Sultry Satin Pumps

Monday, November 17th, 2008

Charlotte Olympia Paloma PumpsOn the subject of fabulous festive shoes, I have to make mention of these super sultry red satin pumps from Charlotte Olympia. These 6 inch heels sit on a 1.5 inch platform and have all the drama in the world!

The height and pointed toe give them an unspoken attitude, yet the pleated ruffles adorning each heel provide a flirtatious and soft allure needed to keep these bad boys in check!

As net-a-porter quite rightly put it , you need to ‘dress from the feet upwards with these,’ so with all the focus landing at your feet go for something understated and sleek to match.

You can pick these up from Net-a-porter for £395.

Festive Feather Footwear

Monday, November 17th, 2008

Karen Millen Feather ShoesKaren Millen has really pulled out all the stops with their eveningwear collection this season, and if you are looking for a fab frock and have a goodly sized budget (dresses are around the £180 mark), then it’s worth a good look. No dress however can get away without a fabulous pair of shoes, and these are a seriously fit for festive merriment!

I love the side on feather detailing and the all important black satin material. If budget is an issue I would be tempted to just throw on last years LBD and invest in these instead. At £120 they are a little steep, but if you buy them from ASOS this week you can get 20% off* and nab them for £96!

*The 20% discount applies to selected brand items so could get your Christmas party outfit sorted this week and pick up a bargain in the process!
