ASOS Summer DressesASOS have set up a handy link on their homepage to all their summer dresses priced £20 or under – very handy indeed for the focused summer shopper!

They’ve got lots on offer and here’s my top picks:

Designer v Highstreet: The Floral Maxi

Sunday, May 31st, 2009

The Floral MaxiThis summer it’s all about the floral maxi, and the nature of maxi’s eliminate the need to coordinate a whole outfit and are so comfortable and breezy in the hot weather, they make it an essential summer buy for me!

I love the designer option here by Diane von Furstenberg – this is their #17 look from their spring runway show and is such a feminine, pretty ensemble but at £356 it is on the expensive size.

The Highstreet option is from Mango and is considerably cheaper at £85, especially as it is 100% silk.

Team you maxi dress with caged heels and a glam jacket to emulate the DVF look, or simply with a skinny cardy and flipflops for a laid back look.

Designer v Highstreet: The Colour Block Dress

Sunday, May 31st, 2009

COlour Block DressesIf you are after a great little colour block dress then look no further than these options here. On the left we have the Designer pick – which is Alexander Wang’s fitted stretch dress in Cerulean. At $795 it is a pretty reasonable price for a Designer dress, however our Highstreet option is a real steal coming in at just £35.

Both dresses sport the body-con trend as well as the popular colour blocking and would look great with peep toe ankle boots for an edgy, sophisticated look.

You can pick up the Alexander Wang dress from Forward Forward and the Highstreet frock is available online over at Goddiva!

Marks and Spencers 125 Years Collection

Thursday, May 28th, 2009

Marks and Spencer 60s Inspired Mirror Mini DressMarks and Spencer is celebrating 125 years of trading, and they’ve released a special vintage inspired collection charting styles and fashions over the last 125 years.

There are a selection of dresses each inspired by a different decade, and given a modern twist to bring them up to date. This 60s inspired shift dress is definitely one of my favourites, and balances old with new perfectly. The shift shape is timeless, and the mini-dress is perfect for this season;s short hem lines trend. The reflective mirror detailing is most definitely eye-catching, and the loose fit is perfect for summer. Team it with leggings and ballet pumps for a daytime look, or add heels and a clutch for the evening. To fully embrace the 60s look, go for some big earrings, big hair, and dark eye makeup with light pink lipstick.

The 60s Inspired Mirror Mini Dress is available now for £49.50, and remember to check out the rest of the collection for some great pieces.

Well now, thanks to innovative designer Markus Lupfer, you can wear both! This Sequin bodice sweater is black, 100% wool with long sleeves and a scoop neck, and is embellished with a multicoloured sequin dress design on the front, complete with real ribbon for the waist.

Flamingo Fever

Tuesday, May 5th, 2009

New Look Flamingo Day DressFlamingos seems to be a surprise trend on the highstreet right now – a quick look in most the big names this week will probably reveal something with a flamingo print on it.

Great for summer, the flamingo print is a welcome change from all the animal prints around at the moment, and makes any item seem fun.

New Look have gone for a flamingos on a cute day dress, and the black material makes the coloured flamingo print stand out really well. The ruched front and gathered back detailing means it fit nicely and won’t need a belt to create a nice silhouette. Team it with coloured tights or bare legs and heels for an evening look, or leggings and pumps for the day time. It costs £25 and is available from the New Look website now.

Study Chic

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

Princesse Tam Tam Mixed Wool Jersey LongIf you’ve currently got your head permanently in a book revising for an exam, of are constantly tip-tapping away at end of year essays, dissertations, or final major projects, you’ll know that there are few things that make it more bearable.

However, whilst you’re chained to your desk being able to slob about in comfy clothes has to be one of the few perks, and if you’re going to do lounge wear you might as well do it well.

This Princesse Tam Tam Mixed Wool Jersey Dress brings a bit of luxury to lounging. The 20% wool and long sleeves means it’s got a bit of warmth but is still light-weight, and it’s a generous length so you can wear it buy itself or with jeans or leggings. There’s even matching leggings available if you want the complete look.

It costs £49, which might seem a lot, but depending on how much time you’ll be spending studying it could definitely prove value for money. It comes in two colours – Bleu Hortensia (light blue) or Gris Chine (a light grey).
