Designer V Highstreet: The Bandage Dress

Thursday, October 16th, 2008

Bandage DressesI am a big fan of the Herve dress, but if the £800+ price tag is a little out of reach, there are some fairly good imitations on the market. Take this Herve-a-like by Lipsy. This one shoulder bandage mini dress couldn’t really be mistaken for a Herve, but at first glance it’s a pretty close match and if you love the bandage dress but not the price tag, it’s the next best thing.

This dress also features some sophisticated detailing on the back – the single shoulder strap doubles into two asymmetric back straps, which look pretty effective and just like a Herve it features all over horizontal stripes. What’s more it’s just £55 from ASOS.

The real Herve is of course gorgeous; sleeveless, with a deep V neck and the popular body-con silhouette it’s stunning. You can pick up this particular style for £828 from Matches.

Print Wars: New Look vs Chloe!

Saturday, October 4th, 2008

Chloe vs New LookI ventured into New Look the other day and I was pleasantly surprised! At the front of the store was their brand new Limited Edition collection, which I must admit consists of some must-have items! Take for example this beautiful silk butterfly dress, as soon as I saw it I thought of the amazing Chloe dress I saw in Selfridges! The prints are so similar, I couldn’t believe my eyes, it’s almost like ‘Chloe for New Look’!

Here are the two dresses for you to make your own opinion, the New Look dress can be purchased online for a mere £35, whereas the Chloe dress is most definitely going to be in the hundreds, I know which I prefer!

Designer v Highstreet: Tough Accessories

Saturday, October 4th, 2008

Vera Wang Braided NecklaceThis season it is all about statement accessories and bringing a little edginess to your looks, and these tough looking items are great for the more edgier punk and grunge lux trends.

This bracelet by All Saints is a great buy and I think the £30.00 price tag isn’t bad for such a great brand. Use this accessory to toughen up your looks, team with your looks by layering over the top of fingerless gloves and the sleeves of chunky knit cardys.

The designer item on the other hand is by Vera Wang and has a cha-ching price tag of £1285.00. Use to toughen up a jewel cocktail dress or use to bring a bit of sparkles and luxury to a muted toned grunge based look. I love the pewter colour and braided detailing – get yours from Net-a-porter.

Designer V Highstreet: Military Coats!

Monday, September 29th, 2008

Military CoatsIt is now time to start thinking about what coat is going to see you through the winter!
Every winter we see a new look for coats and this season it is all about military inspired outerwear!

Military coats and jackets are huge this winter; to ensure that this trend is accessible to all I feel it is only right to give you the choice of designer and highstreet alternatives. I have carefully hand picked two of the must have military coats this season from Stella Mc Cartney and Karen Millen.

The first on the left is my highstreet choice; this is a beautiful wool cotton twill military coat by Karen Millen. The metal dome buttons look fab against the stone fabric! This is a gorgeous fitted jacket that can be worn for all occasions.
Buy from Karen Millen online for £250.

My designer choice is this gorgeous Stella McCartney Felt military coat; this coat is slightly darker, which is probably more practical for winter, the gold statement buttons and bow belt complete the look perfectly! Buy yours from net a porter for £1,175.

Chanel for a Tenner

Wednesday, September 24th, 2008

Debenhams Patent Bow PumpsAs we’ve heard, flats are back. And whilst it would be lovely to sport some signature Chanel black and white ballet pumps, with a price tag in the hundreds, they’re a bit of a stretch for the average budget. As ever though, the high street has stepped in doing what they do best – bringing us designer style at a teeny tiny fraction of the designer price.

These Red Herring Patent Bow Pumps from Debenhams imitate Chanel’s monochrome effect perfectly. And at £10, they’re an absolute steal. Available in cream with a black finish, or vice versa, these are the perfect pumps for wearing with jeans and day dresses, and the patent finish makes them smart enough for the office and evening wear.

Grab a pair (or two) from Debenhams and recreate a timeless Chanel look without the hefty price tag.

Designer v Highstreet: Glass Accessories

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008

Burberry NecklaceI absolutely loved Burberry’s A/W 08 collection. One aspect of their show that was repeated a lot and really stood out to me, was the use of hunks of glass in deep tones such as amber, sapphire and amethyst for their accessories.

I love this Burberry Prorsum Albury necklace, which they ingeniously styled their models to wear over their winter coats and scarves to add some bling to their outerwear. I just love this piece (which you can pick up over at Net-a-porter), but not the price tag! If like me the £995 price tag is a touch too high, you can always pick up a similar piece such as this bracelet from ASOS for just £12.

I’m sure with a bit of ‘Gok-ing’ this bracelet could be whipped into a long length necklace in second, but I’ll be happy to wear mine over the sleeve of a chunky knit cardy, along with skinnies and plain tee, plus heels, for an understated relaxed look with a bit of bling.

Designer V Highstreet: Over-the-knee Boots

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008

Karen Millen over the knee bootsThis autumn boots are becoming more of a statement than ever with over-the-knee style boots being the latest must have!

Yes this year it is either ankle boots or over-the-knee style boots that everyone is wearing! Over-the-knee boots have great benefits, for example as we head into to autumn you may still want to wear those pretty lightweight dresses that you have worn throughout the summer, well you still can with the over-the-knee boots! They will instantly turn your summer wardrobe into a winter wardrobe!

I have got two pairs of over-the-knee boots for you to lust over, the first being the highstreet pair from Karen Millen! These are just great! I love the taupe suede as it is soft and subtle, which is key if you’re investing in this look! They cost £225 and can be purchased from Karen Millen online!

If your budget is slightly bigger why not try these gorgeous Halston Misa over-the-knee boots from Net a porter for £1,095!

Designer v Highstreet: The Check Coat

Sunday, September 14th, 2008

River Island Check CoatMarc by Marc Jacobs Plaid CoatI love the current check trend and the cute coats such as these, that are hitting the shops as a result.

If you’re a real fan of checks then a quick way to incorporate them into your wardrobe and get to wear them lots is to get yourself checked coat for next season.

The two picks are very different in price. The purple and blue double breasted coat on the left is just £69.99 from River Island – a real bargain. I love the military feel with the buttons and high collar.

However, if you have more cash to splash then perhaps head over to Net-a-Porter where you can buy this blue and black Marc by Marc Jacobs Domino plaid coat for £485. I love domino style check and the stud accent detailing on the buttons are bang on trend.

Designer v Highstreet: The 40's Pleated Skirt

Friday, September 5th, 2008

alexandermcqueenpleatedskirtWith hit movies such as ‘The Edge of Love’ hitting the silver screen with their vintage 40’s costume, and D&G conceptualising a whole collection on the Queen, it was inevitable that the pleat skirt would be back in town.

Heritage chic is set to be a big look next season and whilst tweed will be a key fabric, a good staple piece is a basic black pleat skirt. Perfect for work and play, it can be dressed up or down depending on your schedule.

Few people will be brave enough to make like D&G and copy the queen so closely, so on a lesser in-your-face level, make like Land Girls and team with tough boots, loose layered knits and scarves for 1940’s wartime chic.

For a highstreet bargain grab this black pleat skirt form Esprit for £48. If you have the cash to splash hit Net-a-porter for Alexander McQueens High-waisted pleated skirt for £670.

Designer v Highstreet: The Tea Dress

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008

luellaAW08collectionteadressOne of my favourite designers of the moment is Luella – I loved the selection of wood, stud and tartan clogs which they showcased on their A/W 08 catwalk and I particularly like this royal blue tea dress of theirs too. Tea dresses in the colder months are hard to pull off, however with the long sleeves a bit of layering this is a dress that can be worn all year. warehousediamonditsydress

Warehouse has gone onto to create a very similar looking tea dress too and at a fraction of the price at just £65. Combine, as Luella have done, with contrasting colour tights and platform shoe boots for a fresh autumnal look or for a more edgy look throw over a long length skinny sleeve cardigan and skinny belt over the top with knee high and platforms.

Luella’s A/W 08 collection is not yet live on their website, however you can check out their catwalk show on STYLE.COM.
