The Statement Dress

Sunday, March 8th, 2009

DKNY Color Block Tank DressI love this color block tank dress by DKNY – summing up the popular bandage trend as well as some of Spring / Summer’s key colours, canary yellow and pink, it is a hit with me.

Made 75% from ramie, this dress features wide ruched panels at the waist, a pretty sweetheart neckline and another of next season’s statements for eveningwear; side slit pockets.

Team with killer heels, sky high gladiators or sporty lace ups as styled in the photograph.

This dress is a statement piece so accessories are best kept to a minimum; a box type clutch is all you need.

You can pick this dress up for £245 from Net-a-porter.

Getting The Floral Trend Right

Sunday, March 1st, 2009

Diane von Furstenberg Sequin Floral JacketWe are going to see a lot of Flora and Fauna this spring and I am already a huge fan of the trend. To get the trend right you want to keep the look ultra modern, whilst whimsical and old fashioned at the same time – not an easy brief.

To do this I would take a beautiful statement piece such as this exquisite floral sequined jacket by Diane von Furstenberg which has great whimsical granny appeal yet when teamed with super skinny jeans, towering heals and a clutch is given an instant ultra modern look.

For a seriously eye catching evening ensemble I would pop super toned and tanned legs (if I had them!) into the aforementioned Matthew Williamson coral shorts and team with this jacket – a knock-out summer party look with a fresh feel.

Get yours from Net-a-porter for £858.

Pretty Summer Shorts

Sunday, March 1st, 2009

Matthew Williamson Papaya Cotton ShortsPastels with hint of strong colour will be a key colour palette for spring / summer and coral is set to be a huge player by way of vivid colours.

I just love these papaya cotton shorts by Matthew Williamson in eye-popping peachy-coral.

The origami style pleating at each pocket give them a pretty, luxe feel and make these a great investment for the summer wardrobe.

Perfect for day and night, team with a simple pale toned vest and flat gladiators for daytime. Simply switch out the flats for spindly heels and throw over a cute blazer or jacket for evening time.

You can pick yourself up a pair for £250 from Net-a-porter.

Sequin Vest

Friday, February 27th, 2009

Stella McCartney Sequin tankSequins, as we know, are set to remain as popular as ever next season, and I love this simple sequin-sprayed vest by Stella McCartney.

Covering another two separate trends – make-up tones and sheer materials, this is one trend ticking top!

Its simplicity and relaxed racer-back shape make it a great daywear item (not easy when dealing with sequins) as well as providing a lovely laid back look for eveningwear.

Team with stonewash skinnies, sky-high heels, a clutch and statement earrings for a relaxed evening look. Mix it up by throwing over a floral jacket to keep the look contemporary. Swap the clutch for an oversized weekend tote and throw over a cropped jacket for daytime chic.

You can pick this item up over at Net-a-porter for £425.

Great Summer Frock

Friday, February 27th, 2009

Thomas Maier Cross Wrap DressTomas Maier is a favourite designer of mine – not only is he the creative director of Bottega Veneta and once worked at Hermes, but he also has his own collection of which I’m a real fan.

Check out Net-a-porter for his beautiful cashmere pieces (think oversized jumpers and sumptuous ponchos).

However, one of my top pieces has to be this cross wrap dress.

I’d love to create a Burberry style ‘garden girls’ type look with this piece – adding taupe ribbed ankle socks and patent sculptural shoes and then a brocade hem length mac thrown over the top.

The dress features side slit pockets (I’m always a fan of a pocket!) and a detachable self-tie at the waist.

You can pick one up for £396.38 from Net-a-porter.

Fountain Dress

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

Preen Line Fountain DressI also absolutely adore this jersey t-shirt dress from Preen Line. The blush make-up tone is bang on trend for this spring / summer and the ruffles and drop waist detailing nod tot eh ongoing ruffle trend and the 20’s influence also popular this summer.

The real gem in this frock is that it screams femininity yet it’s basically just a pull on t-shirt with added detailing.

For a New York look keep legs bare and team with killer heals and minimal jewellery – just an oversized cocktail ring will do.

Get yours for a rather reasonable (it is Preen after all) £215 from Net-a-porter.

The Square Dress

Thursday, February 19th, 2009

Plain Green Square DressI’m a real fan of Vivienne Westwood’s Anglomania Label and this green plain square dress is one of my current top favourites. I think green is such an underrated colour – it sets off all hair tones and skin tones and what’s more is set to be a hot colour this summer.

The draping and gathering on this dress really accentuates the figure and creates a fabulous forties silhouette whilst the use of buttons and bows keep the look fresh and unique.

Team with bright clashing coloured accessories for a classic S/S 09 vibe or keep it understated and prim with neutral shades for a classic look.

You can pick this dress up from my-wardrobe for £270.

Vegan Bags

Thursday, February 19th, 2009

Matt & Nat Vegan BagsMatt & Nat are a great brand which forego animal products and instead have created stunning accessories such as these 100% vegan leather bags.

The mustard colour Everest shopper features soft distressed leather and costs £175.

A slightly cheaper option would be the blue messenger bag for £145 – I think the design is fabulous and love the quirky features such as the twin front zips and the fact the lining is made from recycled plastic bottles, and which even says so stamped across the inside of the bag.

Matt & Nat are also very environment conscious and have started a handbag recycling programme whereby anyone in North America (soon to go global) who has finished with their Matt & Nat bag can return it to them and it will go to someone worthy.

Not that I could ever imagine parting with one of their bags, but it’s comforting to know that should you need to move on, it will have a nice new owner and not end up in a dumpster for the rest of it’s days.

You can pick both these items from ASOS.

Watch Out For Horses!

Thursday, February 19th, 2009

Once Upon A Time Horse Print Tunic DressI love anything with horses on, and they seem to be quietly infiltrating the high street recently – have a rummage in H & M and you’ll notice a lot of horse print t-shirts if you look closely.

This Horse Print Tunic dress from Once Upon A Time has definitely got a horse theme all over it – a cute black and white print of galloping horses that covers almost the entire dress. The tunic shape with long sleeves is perfect whilst the weather is still a bit unpredictable, and it looks great teamed with black opaque tights or leggings.

And the best thing about this dress is that it’s currently half price,! Reduced from £105 to £50 it’s definitely a bargain.

So if you fancy embracing the horse theme get your hands on this, but be quick as the large size has already sold out, so head over to ASOS now.

Fluoro Wallets

Wednesday, February 18th, 2009

Tory Birch Fluoro WalletsI love these dinky wallets by Tory Birch – their bright eye popping colours will bring a great accent to any outfit.

They come in fluorescent pink and yellow (as well as a slightly more expensive version in a smart brown design) and feature patent crinkled leather as well as plenty of pockets and a zipped section to keep things neat.

To give you an idea of their size they are around 4’’ by 8’’ and 1’’ deep, so nice and compact, but with their bright colour they’ll be easy to spot and should reduce the time spent digging around your bag trying to locate it!

You can get one for yourself from Net-a-porter for £136.
