Following the soft make-up colours and chiffons that sashayed down the S/S 09 catwalk, another micro trend set to be popular this summer is Ballet Chic.
This trend can be easily achieved through the use of muted toned dresses, wrap cardies and skirts so stick to washed out shades and for a fresh feel, team with white pieces.
To top the trend off perfectly however, you’ll need a pair of point-style ballerina pumps like these gorgeous ones from ACNE.
Available from their online store these ballet style pumps cost £190 and come in several different colours and styles.
Check them out here.

I love these Minnie feather pumps by Pedro Garcia, the multicolour feathers are just divine and will ensure your toes are centre of attention.
Their muted tones also make them great for daytime wear – simply team up with a black pencil skirt and blouse for an easy office chic look.
They’d be great for eveningwear too – and will update all manner of little black dresses in an instant.
The toes feature a really cute grosgrain bow and faux pearl hat pin on the front which add to their quirky appeal.
You can pick yourself up a pair from Net-a-porter for £490.

Boyfriend jeans are set to be huge again this season and if you want to invest in a really great pair that will last then these blue J Brand lovelies are a good bet!
The cut on these are so good that they look great with heels or flats and are also perfect for the more curvaceous figure.
I love these baggier style jeans, and I think they are especially perfect for wearing in hot weather during the daytime… the skinnies can come out to play in the cooler evenings but for daytime its comfort all the way!
You can pick these up from Matches for £258.

Following on from our summer bags post a couple of days ago, here’s some more arm candy to flash around this summer.
Legendary handbag designer Anya Hindmarch has just launched three new tote bags for summer. The cream canvas bag as tan leather straps and an inside pocket. There are three different line drawing designs – a coral ‘Laundry Print’ which shows a pair of socks hanging on a washing line, a green ‘Shopping Print’, which feature toothpaste, chocolate, and a wine bottle and a ‘Meat and Poultry’ print which has three chickens on it.
These spacious casual bags are perfect for the weekends, and add a stylish touch to a jeans and top combo.
There’s loads of space for all your bag essentials, and it would easily double up as a beach bag.
And the best part is they’re only £55 each – a bargain for an Anya Hindmarch bag! They’re available from Net A Porter now.

I love this frilly little swimming costume by Something Swim! Featuring a sweet unicorn print and frilled plunge neckline its feminine and sexy all rolled into one.
The halter tie will make the most of your cleavage and the back strap helps keep it in place and looking hot.
At £79 it is a little pricey but it’s a classic print that you could continue to pull out summer after summer.
You can buy this item over at ASOS where you can also pick up a stunning bandeau version of the same print for £59.

I absolutely adore this sequin frock by Rachel Gilbert. Striking and a head turner the bows, sequins and sheer accents all gain top trend-ticking marks.
The sweetheart neckline gives it a young and fun feel whilst the full-on show of sequins and 100% silk material ensures it creates a super-luxe impression.
Perfect for summer parties and for birthday girls it’s a real show stopper. Team with sky high heels and keep accessories to a minimum to ensure the dress delivers maximum impact.

There are some days when you just don’t fancy squeezing yourself into a teeny tiny dress, and a slouchy jumper seems like a far better option.
Well now, thanks to innovative designer Markus Lupfer, you can wear both! This Sequin bodice sweater is black, 100% wool with long sleeves and a scoop neck, and is embellished with a multicoloured sequin dress design on the front, complete with real ribbon for the waist.
The cute bodice design and sequin detail is really eye-catching, and sits in exactly the same place a dress would be, but without the breathing in. Team it with jeans and heels or flats for a day time look.
It costs £205 and is available now from Net A Porter.

Iconic British designer Barbara Hulanicki has just launched a collection for Topshop, featuring some unique items. Barbara Hulanicki was the co-founder of Biba, one of the most famous fashion stores during the 60s and 70s, as any fashionista worth their salt will know!
the collection is very fashion forward, featuring play suits and oversize vests, as well as unique and quirky designs that make them timeless pieces.
Barbara Hulanicki is also a fashion illustrator, and this Shoe Print Vest encapsulates her talent perfectly. the simple light grey vest really makes the line drawing stand out, and highlights all the detail. and for an added twist (literally) check out the knot detailing on the back. this vest would look great with some wet look leggings and heels for an evening look, or skinny jeans and plain leggings during the day.
At only £18, it’s a fairly small price for a piece of fashion history, but the collection is expected to sell out, so get in quick! The entire collection is available online or in larger Topshop stores.

I absolutely love this demi-sheer sequin mini skirt by Isaac Mizrahi. It’s pretty pastel pink shade is ultra girly and it is perfect for sunny summer parties.
The skirt features a net underlay and fuchsia grosgrain waistband and to nail the runway look just team with a fluoro vest.
For a twist on an edgy wedding look, team with a tucked in scoop neck vest and white blazer with cool, sharp lines and some thin and dainty sky-high gold heels.
At £1620 it will have to just sit pretty on my wish list, but if you’ve got the cash to splash then you can pick one up over at Net-a-porter.
