Blazer's are Back!

Sunday, October 5th, 2008

Smythe BlazerThe Spring Summer 09 collections have been paraded on catwalks all over the world and a key trend that is prevalent throughout is the blazer. Gone are the days when the blazer is just for power women and stuffy old men – the blazer is back with a twist. With contrast silk lapels, turn up sleeves and tapered side panels, the blazer is more than just a jacket – it’s now a statement piece. And this gorgeous herringbone wool blazer from Smythe is no exception.

This feminine and sexy piece can be teamed with absolutely anything. It’s perfect to wear with a dress for any occasion, with tapered trousers for the office and it will also look great with a simple tee and jeans for a low key look.

The Smythe Holiday boyfriend blazer is available from Net-a-porter at £470.

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

Mc Queen Spring 09 CollectionOh we are extremely lucky! Alexander Mc Queen has produced an 8 piece pre Spring 09 collection and net a porter is bringing them to our wardrobes!!

The collection follows a theme of contrast between masculine and feminine, you can see this straight away when you look at the all-in-one tuxedos, which by the way is the modern way to wear black tie! This look is just divine; the plunging neckline mixed with the masculine tailoring gives it a typical Mc Queen edge. These all-in-one tuxedos’s range from £1, 095 to £1,185!

Statement shoulders are prominent within the collection, take for example the graphic stripe dress (second from left) this is a superfine knit dress that looks ultra sleek, the statement shoulders have been produced using shoulder pads that can be removed if preferred! This dress costs £765!

The collection is all about effortless chic so keep accessories simple! Hurry to net a porter to view the collection in full and get full commentary on each look as you watch it glide down the runway!

Balmain Rocks at Paris Fashion Week!

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

Balmain Spring 09Paris fashion week saw a grand opening thanks to Christophe Decarnin for Balmain opening the show in true Parisienne style!

Balmain really set the standards with this eighties inspired collection. It oozed with bling and rock chicness! The jackets were to die for with a new shoulder shape to set our tongues wagging! Everything was over embellished in sequins, studs and diamantes, particularly the jeans that were stonewashed, ripped and featured Celtic cross embellishments in crystals. Completely over the top but of course in a good way!

Mini voluminous tutus were a key look on the dress front teamed with statement shoes and belts! To see a full review of the show and the complete collection, check out!

Fashion Friendly M&S

Limited Collection Tiered Ruffle TopMarks and Spencer have a bit of a reputation for being a shop for the ‘more mature’ woman. However, in recent years they’ve created a new range called ‘Limited Collection’ which is turning all the right heads in the fashion world. Their AW08 collection has just been featured in Vogue, and is fronted by one of the most recognisable faces in the fashion industry, model Lily Cole.

The clothes are heavily influenced by catwalk trends and aim to appeal to the younger, discerning high street shopper with competitive prices and fashion forward designs. Whilst it’s not a particularly large collection, this seems to make it more exclusive, and there’s definitely enough pieces to create work, day and evening looks with great accessories.

One of my favourite pieces from the AW08 collection is this Tiered Ruffle Top. Inspired by top designer Philip Lim’s recent ruffle-tastic dresses, this top has a tiered ruffle design on the front and back, a cowl neck and batwing sleeves. It definitely needs to be paired with something simple, like skinny black jeans or trousers. At only £39.50 it’s a great price, and a top that will see you all the way through winter.

It’s available now from Marks and Spencer online, or larger Marks and Spencer stores. Be warned though, Limited Collection often sells out quickly!

September £50 Challenge

Monday, September 1st, 2008

Thakoon A/W 08 Catwalk LookAnother month, another £50 challenge! As well as the challenge of creating an outfit for under 50 quid I also pushed the brief further to challenge myself to recreate one of my favourite A/W 08 catwalk looks. The look I picked is this wonderful punk inspired outfit by Thakoon. Their spin on ladylike structure combined with punk-esque prints are bang on trend and gorgeous.

To recreate this look for under £50 I hit Primarni (also known as Primark to some) and found this gorgeous wrap print dress for just £14. With both a serious ladylike shape and featuring the all important tartan check – this is a winner. I couldn’t resist their £3 studded waist cincher or £12 patent lace up platforms either – top marks to Primark as always!

Then onto Tabio who stock great everyday knee socks as well as many innovative and whacky designs, but I love these cotton silky feeling over knees for just £13.

Finally, statement jewellery and gems will be big next season (the bigger the better) and this black gem ring will be great to top off this outfit and great, too, for many other looks such as gothic chick, grunge lux and the LBD craze to name a few. At £8 it keeps me in budget and will keep you on trend.

Sept £50 Challenge

Dress £14 Primark
Over Knee Socks £13 Tabio
Ring £8 ASOS
Shoe Boots £12 Primark
Belt £3 Primark

Total £50 – Victory is mine!

Race for Lace!

Wednesday, August 20th, 2008

waterlilly-black.jpgWith the new trend being lace, a great way to wear it is on your legs, the fashionable design draws attention to your pins, which is great as the net like material is a fantastic leg slimmer! I really like the selection of tights, tightsplease have as I thought the designs aren’t overtly sexy but there is something about the tights that draws peoples eyes to them, as I noticed at work today!

The sensuality of these Pamela Mann tights is a million miles away from your grandmas net curtains and doylees but I thought the price of £6.99 was quite reasonable. A fashionable vamp vibe is difficult to resist and If other people get the same attention as I found I got in them, they are worth netting..I mean getting!

The Pigalle has arrived…

Friday, August 8th, 2008

RM by Roland Mouret Pigalle wool dressThe dress of the moment Roland Mouret’s Pigalle wool dress is now available to buy. One of the hottest looks on the runway, this dress has had a huge buzz about it, and is a must have item for AW08. 100% wool, the Pigalle dress gives a sleek silhouette, has a flattering length – not too short and not too long, and is the ultimate power outfit for the office or the perfect evening dress.

In a neutral gray, it’s a welcome change to classic black, and works with any colour accessories, bags or shoes.

At £990 it’s one for die-hard fashionistas only, but the timeless shape and colour means it’ll stand the test of time well and is guaranteed to make you look fabulous whenever you pull it out the wardrobe.

If you want to get your hands on it, make sure you do it soon, as there’s no question that this dress will be gone before you know it. Head over to Net-a-porter right now!

Jonathon Saunders Ellesmere Gown

Thursday, August 7th, 2008

Jonathon Saunders Ellesmere GownI’ve just enjoyed a lovely evening in front of the TV and received my daily fashion fix in the form of Gok Wan! I love the show and watch every week, my only criticism is that they let him win every time. Sometimes the designer styles are just so pristine and irresistible that they deserve to win for the sheer class they exude.

Tonight is a perfect example, we saw an amazing red Sari Gueron dress, black feathered Temperley dress and this stunning Jonathan Saunders Ellesmere gown (pictured left). This black and white creation was by far my favourite piece of the evening; elegant, chic and so classy, the designer side deserved to win for this dress alone in my opinion.

I’ve just been over to Net-a-porter and it is currently available for £1420, partner with a simple black clutch and some patent black peep-toes, Louboutins if possible!

Ripple Cuff Platform SandalsAlthough I loved the designer side, the high street dresses were also fabulous and Gok managed to put some stunning outfits together. If I had to pick one I’d have to choose the blue maxi dress from H&M with the wide Warehouse belt and Topshop sandals, the colour of the dress was beautiful and looked so much better after the alterations.

I also loved the Ripple Cuff Platform Sandals from Topshop that were partnered with the H&M dress. They’re rather unique and a must have if you dress to impress and want to keep up with the trends. They cost £65 and are available in navy blue or lilac.

Prom Dresses

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

Miu Miu prom dressEven if you don’t have a prom to go to (and most of us probably don’t), that doesn’t mean you can’t buy the dress. Prom dresses are everywhere, from high street to designer, and they’re great to slip on for a night out. Uncomplicated but effective, these dresses transform you into a prom queen in with one easy zip.

This Miu Miu Bustier prom dress has everything – the perfect strapless shape, a full skirt and this seasons hottest detail – a big bow. In classic black this dress can be accessorised with the perfect partner of every black dress, diamonds. Slip on some black tights if it’s a bit chilly, and some killer heels. Or, if you want to be cutting edge and on trend, invest in some peep-toe ankle boots.

With a price tag of £1,085, this is definitely the upper end of the scale, but you’re guaranteed a well-made, built to last garment that will fit you like a glove. Available at Net-a-Porter.
