One Final Trawl Through The Sales

Thursday, July 16th, 2009

Dorothy Perkins Peplum DressTrawling the sales rack is always a bit of a stress, but there are still some bargains to be had before everything summery is cleared away to make way for new Autumn/Winter collections.

Dorothy Perkins have some great summer bargains, including this Black Ditsy Peplum Dress, for just £9. It’s even still available in all sizes except an 8, which is quite a rare thing for a sale item. The floral print and strapless shape is perfect for summer, and it can be adapted for the less-than-summery weather by wearing a t-shirt underneath. Structuring has been creeping into the highstreet this summer, and is set to be big news come autumn, so the peplum shape will work into autumn, and the black background on the dress means it can be teamed with black tights.

Playsuits For Night Time

Thursday, June 25th, 2009

Dorothy Perkins Black PlaysuitIf you thought playsuits were just for daytime playing – looking cute round town and summer garden parties – then think again – this trend is now smartening up and branching out into styles perfect for night time playing too.

This Black bow Playsuit from Dorothy Perkins is perfect for a sophisticated look, with it’s linen finish and wide-legged shorts, as well as a cheeky halter neck and cute bow finish. Team it with all black accessories for a completely polished look, or throw in some colour with a bright clutch bag or shoes.

And even better, it’s also now in the sale, so it’s a bargain at £20. The same style is also available in a grey checked material, which would be perfect for the office, so now you can play all day and all night!

A Great Dress for the Sportswear Trend

Sunday, June 7th, 2009

M&S Silk DressSportswear will be a popular micro trend this summer and Elle Magazine has hailed this pure silk belted utility dress from M&S as one of their ‘most wanted’ items as it is so reminiscent of Stella McCartney’s sports inspired collection.

At £59 it makes the perfect investment piece for this trend and is a lot kinder on the pocket than the designer alternative!

Team with leggings or jeans for a laid back feel or with gladiator heels and a clutch for an edgy and sophisticated evening look.

You can pick it up over at M&S among their Limited Collection or online here.

The High Street Strikes Back

Thursday, May 14th, 2009

Dorothy Perkins Metallic Strappy High HeelsThere’s been a bit of a buzz about the high street recently – it seems we’re all realising that, when times are hard, we can still count on the high street to come good with the bargains.

Dorothy Perkins have just launched a new range of shoes for the summer – so you can pick up the latest designer trends for even cheaper than normal. If you’re looking for a pair of statement shoes that’ll see you through to winter, have a look at their Metallic Strappy High Heels. The cage effect has been used by lots of designers this season, in particularly YSL and Givenchy, and metallic is one of this summer’s key colour trends. There’s also a hint of the gladiator look about them, which is making a come back. Match them with any outfit for an instant tougher look.

They cost £38, a definite budget friendly price for shoes, and you can find them in Dorothy Perkins stores or on the website.

Skirts Go Bodycon

Tuesday, April 14th, 2009

New Look Plain Stretch SkirtWe’ve had bodycon dresses, and now get ready for the bodycon skirt, slightly kinder to the figure, and a welcome change from all those billowy, floral numbers.

A simple, understated piece, this skirt is great for wearing with an interesting top to balance it out, and can be worn with flats and thick tights or leggings for a daytime look, or team it with bare legs or sheer tights and heels for the evening.

New Look have got the perfect one – the Plain Stretch Skirt is made of stretchy jersey material, sits above the knee, and has a waistband to give it a finished look. It’s available in three different colours – grey, a deep pink, and blue costing a minuscule £8 each. If you’re feeling brave, there’s also a black and white striped or red and white striped version for £12 – but remember what horizontal stripes can do!

Match these skirts with an embellished top, a vest, or a shirt – it’ll work with almost anything as long as it isn’t too long.

ASOS Mid-Season Sale

Thursday, April 9th, 2009

ASOS One Shoulder Colourblock DressASOS have launched their mid-season sale today, and there’s up to 50% off all their ranges. Whilst some of it is decidedly winter-y and last season, having a virtual rummage through can pay off, with some great items that are perfect for spring/summer.

This ASOS One Shoulder Colourblock Jersey Dress ticks loads of major trend boxes for S/S09 – one shouldered, colour blocking, and body-con. Whilst perhaps black isn’t the number one colour for spring, it does set a tan off perfectly – fake or otherwise. This dress would be great for a night out teamed with bare legs (weather permitting) or black tights. In order to fully embrace the colour block trend try matching it with some purple shoes and accessories.

At £18 this isn’t too much of a bank-breaker, and would see you through any social occasion this spring. ASOS currently have all sizes in stock, but as usual with sales, they tend to sell out quick!

Animal Print Takes Over

Tuesday, April 7th, 2009

New Look Animal Print VestAnimal print tops are all over the high street at the moment, and make an interesting change from a plain t-shirt or tunic top. Match them with jeans or leggings for a casual weekend look. From zebra to snake to leopard, there’s a huge array of different prints available in this versatile trend.

Having scoured the high street I can definitely confirm that this trend is pretty much in every single shop, so there’s a huge amount of choice. One of my favourites though is this Animal Oversized Vest from New Look, for the bargain price of £16. The grey and black leopard print also features some blue and purple detailing, and a nice splash of colour. Wear it loose with jeans or leggings, or add some black tights, heels, and a belt for an exciting night look, and match some purple and blue accessories for a truly co-ordinated, pulled together look.

And the best part? No animals were harmed in the making of these clothes!

Simple Jumpsuit

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

ASOS Bandeau Jersey JumpsuitIf you want to try the current jumpsuit trend, but don’t want to spend a fortune taking the plunge, or aren’t quite convinced by the fluorescent colours they seem to come in, then look no further than ASOS.

This Bandeau Jersey Jumpsuit is in classic black, sleeveless, has cropped trousers that will sit just below the knee, and is made of a stretchy, soft material that’ll grip where it’s suppose to and hang loosely where it isn’t. You can wear it almost any way imaginable – pop a waisted belt on to create a smart silhouette, wear a coloured t-shirt under it for a casual day look, or simply team it with heels for a night out.

Cost wise, it comes in at a budget-friendly £21, so if you’ve been debating with going for a jumpsuit, this is definitely a perfect opportunity. It’s available from ASOS now.
