The Petal Purse

Saturday, May 23rd, 2009

Petal PurseWith the wedding season kicking off once again, it’s time for many of us to start hunting down the perfect dress and accessories for our various ceremonies and receptions on our calendar, and the top of my wish list is this floriferous satin petal clutch by Christan Louboutin.

Perfect for adding a fun and feminine touch to any outfit, this fushia purse features a ruffle petal finish as well as Louboutin’s signature shoe fastening (very Carrie of Sexy and the City), a silver beaded chain to hold, as well as their famous red lining.

Perfect for clashing against strong colours or accenting pale flirtatious and feminine pieces, it is available over at Net-a-porter for £835.

It’s most certainly an investment piece, but a very beautiful one at that!

Designer v Highstreet: Patterned Cut-Aways

Friday, May 22nd, 2009

Patterned Cut-AwaysCocktail swimsuits are going to be big again this summer (think completely impractical swim suits – with lots of ‘cut-aways’, basically the type of thing that may look stunning but have the power to give you absolutely awful tan lines).

Well, if you are into that sort of thing you may find as I’ve noticed, that they tend to mainly come in block colours like black or white and be all about maximum glamour, sexiness and exposure.

I was happily surprised then to find these two retro patterned cut out swimsuits, which make a refreshing change to the bulk of these type of swimsuits in the market right now.

The Highstreet option is from Urban Outfitters and costs £38.

The Designer verision is by Milly and costs £151.70 and is available from Net-a-porter, who suggest this swimsuit can double up as a top as well.

A Great Solution For The Sheer Trend

Friday, May 22nd, 2009

Bodas Sheer Lingerie SetTracking down the appropriate underwear to go under light materials such as chiffon can be a bit of a mission. If the material isn’t clinging to the outline of the underwear, worse still you may even be able to see through the garment. Bodas and Matches have come to the rescue with a collection of lingerie that is designed solely for use under such fabrics!

From underskirts to slips to lingerie, they offer a great selection of items to remedy this problem and hope to offer the solution you need.

Perfect for the popular sheer trend, you can team with the palest of pinks and the clingiest of materials with confidence. I love their demi-sheer nude underwear sets – this particular set costs £36 for the bra and £17 for the briefs.

Check out the collection over at Matches.

The Ultimate Mini Skirt

Thursday, May 21st, 2009

Topshop Monochrome Sequin Mini SkirtThis summer will see hemlines go to extremes – we’re talking floor length or short enough to be a belt. We’ve already looked at maxi dresses – so here’s the other end of the scale – the mini skirt.

If you’re looking for a real statement skirt then look no further than Topshop. This Monochrome Sequin Mini Skirt is made up of individual black and white big sequin discs that’ll ripple when you walk, and have a great shiny, lacquered finish. This is definitely not a skirt for day time wearing though – team it with a simple black or white vest top to keep the monochrome theme, and some patent heels would look brilliant too to keep the shiny theme.

At £65 it’s a bit of an investment piece, but monochrome is a classic timeless look, and when hemlines change again next summer you’ll still be able to whip this one out of the wardrobe.

It’s available from the Topshop website now.

The High Street Strikes Back

Thursday, May 14th, 2009

Dorothy Perkins Metallic Strappy High HeelsThere’s been a bit of a buzz about the high street recently – it seems we’re all realising that, when times are hard, we can still count on the high street to come good with the bargains.

Dorothy Perkins have just launched a new range of shoes for the summer – so you can pick up the latest designer trends for even cheaper than normal. If you’re looking for a pair of statement shoes that’ll see you through to winter, have a look at their Metallic Strappy High Heels. The cage effect has been used by lots of designers this season, in particularly YSL and Givenchy, and metallic is one of this summer’s key colour trends. There’s also a hint of the gladiator look about them, which is making a come back. Match them with any outfit for an instant tougher look.

They cost £38, a definite budget friendly price for shoes, and you can find them in Dorothy Perkins stores or on the website.

A New Take On The Jumper Dress

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

Markus Lupfer Sequin Bodice SweaterThere are some days when you just don’t fancy squeezing yourself into a teeny tiny dress, and a slouchy jumper seems like a far better option.

Well now, thanks to innovative designer Markus Lupfer, you can wear both! This Sequin bodice sweater is black, 100% wool with long sleeves and a scoop neck, and is embellished with a multicoloured sequin dress design on the front, complete with real ribbon for the waist.

The cute bodice design and sequin detail is really eye-catching, and sits in exactly the same place a dress would be, but without the breathing in. Team it with jeans and heels or flats for a day time look.

It costs £205 and is available now from Net A Porter.

Flamingo Fever

Tuesday, May 5th, 2009

New Look Flamingo Day DressFlamingos seems to be a surprise trend on the highstreet right now – a quick look in most the big names this week will probably reveal something with a flamingo print on it.

Great for summer, the flamingo print is a welcome change from all the animal prints around at the moment, and makes any item seem fun.

New Look have gone for a flamingos on a cute day dress, and the black material makes the coloured flamingo print stand out really well. The ruched front and gathered back detailing means it fit nicely and won’t need a belt to create a nice silhouette. Team it with coloured tights or bare legs and heels for an evening look, or leggings and pumps for the day time. It costs £25 and is available from the New Look website now.
