Leaf Skirt

Sunday, March 15th, 2009

Marc Jacobs Leaf SkirtOne of my top favourite Spring / Summer 09 catwalk shows has to be Marc Jacobs, and fresh off the catwalk is this stunning black twill leaf brocade pencil skirt.

I love the way the item which looks pretty formal, yet has been styled with casual and clashing pieces such as plaid.

As we know all things to do with nature will be a key trend this spring / summer and I think this is a great key piece to indulge in. Use to smarten up a party look and just mix it up with random pieces to achieve a fresh and modern feel,

You can pick this skirt up from Net-a-porter for £575.

Preppy Returns!

Thursday, March 12th, 2009

Preppy ReturnsWith the return of the blazer there’s been a comeback of all things preppy, and it’s a great look to go from winter to spring, as you can layer up with shirts, jumpers, and of course, a blazer.

This trend hasn’t really hit the high street properly yet, but here’s a few items already on the shelves. If you really want to embrace the preppy look, a pair of loafers are key, and these Karla Penny Loafers have got all the key features – brown leather, tassels, and the classic shape. They cost £45.

A shirt is also key – wear it tucked in for ultra preppy, or loose for a more casual feel. This Neutral Stripe Shirt, £22, from Dorothy Perkins, is a great mix for casual and smart, with a soft collar and roll up sleeves.

Finally, the ultimate preppy accessory, a satchel, and sadly these don’t come cheap if you’re looking for a full size, 100% leather one. However, on a smaller, cheaper scale, ASOS come to the rescue with this cute Painted Leather Satchel for £28. You might not be able to carry your entire life around in it, but it’s definitely big enough for the essentials.

So if preppy’s your thing, then hunt out those old episodes of The OC and get ready for the come back!

Fringed Waistcoat

Wednesday, March 11th, 2009

Next Suede Fringed WaistcoatIf fringing is your thing or you plan to embrace the western trend next season then you may be in need of this little fringed waistcoat.

Look to Hermes, Givenchy and Allessandro Dell’Acqua for inspiration on how to work this trend – where you find everything from western bondage to simply western style trimmings to inspire you.

Team with acid stone wash jeans and a tunic and when the weather warms up simply throw over a white cotton dress and gladiator sandals for a laid back look.

You can pick this up from Next for £35 (where you can also bag the other items in the picture – the tunic is £32 and the high-waisted jeans are £28).

BHS, Believe It Or Not

Tuesday, March 10th, 2009

BHS Quilted BagThis may be the one and only time we feature an item from BHS, or it could be the start of a beautiful relationship with the high street chain that’s not particularly known for it’s fashion-forward lines.

However, desperate times and all that, and BHS have come up with this little gem that, believe it or not, could easily be a Marc Jacobs or even a Chanel creation. A staple for any night out or social occasion, this Quilted Bag has all the detailing of a designer equivalent – chain strap, gold trim, and a great hot pink colour, so perfect for spring and summer. It’ll match any outfit and is great for contrasting with a dark coloured outfit.

Costing only £15, it’s an absolute bargain, and once word gets out chances are these will be flying off the shelves. It’s not available on the BHS website yet, but should be soon, so keep your eyes peeled!

Cute Skirt

Tuesday, March 10th, 2009

Topshop Fluro Bloom SkirtTulip skirts are back with a vengeance and for anyone that benefits from a little ‘waist definition’ – they are fabulous.

With fluro colours and floral prints two of this season’s top trends, this skirt ticks several boxes in one fell swoop.

Team with a figure hugging top tucked in, or better still this is the one of only situations I can accept the need to don a ‘body’. Guaranteeing no tucked-in-lumps-and-bumps a ‘body’ is the neatest way to create a smooth silhouette – very effective in this case.

Over the top of the said body, throw a skinny cropped cardy (nothing long otherwise your nipped in waist will be out of sight), tights and towering heels.

In the summer loose everything bar the skirt and simply add a scoop neck white vest and flip flops for an effortless look.

You can pick this skirt up from Topshop for £32.

Hero Boots

Monday, March 9th, 2009

Oasis Alisha Laser Cut BootHailed as an ‘Elle Hero’ by Elle Magazine these are some seriously fabulous boots. The cut-away trend will remain big next season and look fabulous in footwear.

I love the peep toes, the heel zip fastening and the two tone colours, and as the magazine states, they will go with absolutely everything.

Use to toughen up a pretty dress, add interest by peeping out the hem of a skinny jean or team with a plain shift dress and belted cardy – just for starters!

Available in tan or black they cost £65 and are available from Oasis, several sizes are already out of stock on-line in both colours, so make like supermarket sweep if you want to bag a pair!

Great Transitional Tunic

Monday, March 9th, 2009

Next Ikat TunicThis time of year is a tricky time to dress. The new trends for spring / summer are hitting the shops yet it’s too cold and dreary to contemplate going out without your winter coat and brolly.

‘Transitional Buys’ seem the sensible way forward – things that you can wear all summer long, yet at the same time you can begin to get some wear out of now and start embracing next season’s trends right away.

One of the most popular new trends is based on ‘the traveller’ – think ethnic prints and tribal jewellery for example.

This ikat print tunic from Next sums up this trend and is a great in-between piece – in the summer wear as styled in the photo with bare legs and bangles, and maybe some gladiator sandals or leather flip flops. Whilst it remains chilly, wear it layered up with chunky cardies and skinny jeans.

This dress come with the belt pictured and costs £40.

Kane Style Dress

Sunday, March 8th, 2009

Jovonna Disc DressIf you are a fan of Christopher Kane’s latest work then you may also like this silk organza flower dress by Jovonna.

Featuring double layers and similar oversized circular disks to Kane’s pieces, this dress is very sheer and romantic.

The simple underlay shift calms down what is a rather busy design (the back of the dress is plain though to contrast the busyness of the front).

Team with plain and simple muted colour heels and minimal jewellery for a chic look.

Available from ASOS it costs £85.

Handy Office Wear

Sunday, March 8th, 2009

ASOS Pussy Bow TopGreat for those bleary weekday mornings, this top is a great option for the work wardrobe as it is made from 100% viscose – no ironing required!

The pussy bow smartens up this choice of casual material and the three quarter length sleeves makes this a great transitional piece as the weather gets warmer.

Tuck into a pencil skirt for a smooth silhouette and pair with killer heels and a suitably coiffed hair do for a smart, sophisticated look.

Also available in grey/nude (for a slightly more vintage feel) you can pick one up for £17.75 from ASOS.
