Vintage Without The Rummaging

Tuesday, February 10th, 2009

Lotus Peep Toe Snake Insert Court ShoesIf you’re looking for some quirky, vintage looking shoes without having to hunt through shops and markets, then have a look at the Lotus brand at ASOS.

Their vintage inspired patterns and designs are perfect for making your shoes the talking point of your outfit, and you can get ahead on the S/S 09 trends with the Peep Toe Snake Insert Court Shoes. They incorporate many of the key trends already seen going down the catwalk – coral and metallic colours and tall and narrow heels.

Team these with a coral or metallic dress to highlight the colours, or the soon to be everywhere stone-washed skinny jeans. The cute vintage feel means they can be worn for a day or night look, and even with black tights until it’s warm enough to brave bare legs.

The shoes are also available in a more traditional black colour if coral isn’t quite your scene. They cost £125 for either colour and are on sale at ASOS now.

The Next Season Necklace

Monday, February 9th, 2009

River Island Multi-hoop NecklaceIf you are looking to update your accessories with something that will work both now, and next season, then this necklace from River Island is perfect. Featuring dark contrasting tones it is perfect for the final sombre months left before S/S hits us.

Great for office-wear and play, sling over anything from a vintage tee to a smart shift.

Next season is all about piling on the jewellery – especially in the form of short bulky necklaces with the incorporation of textural earthy materials such as wood, as seen here.

So a perfect all rounder, this is at the top of my wish list, what’s more it’s just £14.67 from River Island – chic and cheap!

Highstreet v Designer: The Snakeskin Tote

Monday, February 9th, 2009

Snakeskin TotesDeriving from the New Exotica and Nature S/S 09 trends, snakeskin is going to be very popular next season in terms of bags and shoes. So if you are on the lookout for a new handbag, snakeskin is a sure way to hit two trends in one hit and there’s plenty about to choose from.

The designer version here is by Pauric Sweeny, I love the highly reflective quality of the material. It also features a plaid lining as well as brown leather handles – wide enough to throw over the shoulder which is always a bonus!

If however, the £1,243 price tag is a little on the high side then this highstreet version by Marc B is a real bargain at just £45. It also features an unusual lining – leopard print in this case, as well as twin handles and handy side pockets.

You can pick up the designer version from Net-a-porter and the highstreet option from ASOS.

Washed out and Beautiful

Sunday, February 8th, 2009

Vanessa Bruno Double Layer BlouseOne of my favourite S/S 09 trends has been described as ‘forever pieces,’ ‘tomorrows antiques’ and ‘make-up colours’. This ultra chic and feminine trend is all about nudes, soft flowing materials and ladylike qualities.

At the top of my wish list is this beautiful double layer v-neck blouse from Vanessa Bruno.

Made of 100% cupro it has all the hallmarks of the embodiment of femininity – semi-transparent, delicate button through detailing and soft draping to name a few.

Team with super skinny denim or tailored trousaers and sky high heels to toughen up and offset the soft antique-like feel.

If this ticks your boxes too, then you can pick one up from Net-a-porter for £235 here.

Leaf Hoop Earrings

Sunday, February 8th, 2009

Topshop Leaf Hoop EarringsNature will play a big part in the coming S/S 09 trends, especially in the form of nature inspired clothing in the form of prints, and accessories in the form of texture.

I adore these curved leaf hoop earrings from Topshop. Their light gold colour is perfect for the washed out hues of next season’s colour palette, and their form nods to the nature trend in a subtle, feminine way.

Featuring bullet back fastenings and textural engravings, for £8 they are a cheap way to embrace the trend and begin creating your summer wardrobe.

Get yours from Topshop here.

I ‘heart’ these shoes

Thursday, February 5th, 2009

Alexander McQueen Heart Peep-Toe PumpsWith heart shaped peep-toes and a hot pink sole these Alexander McQueen pumps are a much sought after valentine’s gift this February 14th.

Their sky high 5’’ heels will ensure a good view is to be had of the slick of pink underfoot, and their patent leather and classic pump style make these perfect for work or play.

The little heart shaped peep-toes are incredibly sweet and discreet, and a fun little detail.

You, or your sweetheart can pick these up for £387 from Net-a-porter here.

Stonewash for Spring

Thursday, February 5th, 2009

TopShop Bleach Acid Skinny JeansWe saw a brief appearance from them last year, and this year you won’t be able to avoid them – stonewashed skinnies. The only kind of jeans to be seen in, dip died, faded jeans will be popping up everywhere come spring, and they’re already making their way into the high street.

Topshop, ahead of the curve as always, have already got a few pairs in so you can be wearing the trend before anyone else. These Bleach Acid Skinny Jeans are the perfect colour and shape, and have that dip died look nailed. The pocket detailing and increasing fade down the leg makes them look extra authentic. Team them with florals for a great spring look, or pretty much anything else in your wardrobe. If you’re still embracing the grunge trend, they’d go perfectly with a flannel shirt and some heavy duty boots. They cost £40, but are already only in limited sizes so be quick!

Available now from the TopShop website or instore.

Essential Wardrobe Staple? The Wellington Boot!

Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009

Top Six Wellie PicksAfter a second day of making snowmen and trudging through the snow I have to admit to a little wellie-envy in the midst of all the fun.

Although I couldn’t do with out mine (trusty Hunters in a sweet pink rose pattern) I did spot a few others that I had to track down.

Here’s a run down of my Top Six Wellie Picks:

#1 The Ilse Jacobsen Black Wellie for £65. This is my absolute favourite. The lace up oozes sophistication and neatness. I almost want them just to style my hallway.

#2 The Cath Kidson Mini Dot Wellington for £38. Bright and cheery but not too garish for a patterned boot.

#3 Burberry’s Exploded Check Wellington for £113. Understated and neutral – a good choice for the corporate wellington boot wearer who wants dry toes but without the raised eyebrows around the office.

#4 Hunter’s Festival Tall Wellington Boots in yellow. A bargain as currently on sale with 50% off! Grab these hunter’s in the colour of sunshine yellow for £37.50.

#5 The American Sweetheart Wellie for £35. Featuring an American Sweetheart and a fleece lining, this boot offers both style and comfort!

#6 Moncler Padded Boots for £370. Pricey but seriously cosy and can be worn when it’s just plain cold – no snow required.

If you’ve not got yourself some wellies yet, with more snow forecast for the end of this week get ordering now!

The Drape Dress

Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009

Vivienne Westwood Red LabelI love this crepe jersey drape dress from Vivienne Westwood’s Red Label. It’s a great example of the original iconic drape dress, reworked for a modern look.

Perfect for this and next season, pair with dark tone chunky heels now and inject some S/S colour in the form of bright peach and yellow accessories and gladiator heels for the summer.

The dress is made from a demi-sheer fabric and features short ruched sleeves and a small discreet side slit.

A great figure flatterer, it simply pulls on and I think is a great investment at £315 – baring in mind the fabulous brand.

Luella S/S 09

Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009

Luella Spring/Summer 09Luella’s S/S 09 collection has made it’s way onto Net A Porter, and once again the iconic designer hasn’t disappointed, with some great colourful floral pieces to make you wish even harder for warmer weather.

In a slightly new direction for the brand, there’s some great smarter office pieces, including two cropped tweed jackets and skirts. My favourite, the Florence Bouclé Jacket, on the left, £565, would work well dressed up with the matching skirt for the office, or would complement denim for a weekend look.

On the right, a classic Luella staple, the Bertha Frilled Dress, £795. A miss-match of different floral prints and crinkley fabric, with an exposed zip and blue detailing, this is the perfect dress to make you stand out in spring. Typically Luella, it’s already sold out, but there’s more on the way.

Have a look at the rest of the Luella collection over at Net A Porter now.
