The Hobo Bag

Wednesday, December 17th, 2008

Chloe Hobo BagOne item reigning high on lots of Christmas lists this year will be a brand new bag and for me my number one choice would be this gorgeous light brown leather Heloise hobo bag by Chloe!

I particularly like the shape of the bag – it’s big enough to carry a good amount of items, yet it’s long shape ensures the bag isn’t bulky.

The bag features a press-stud fastening baby pocket on the front, a plaited leather shoulder strap, side pockets and a press-stud fastening to close meaning no messing around with zips and flaps and things.

At £798 from Net-a-porter it is an investment piece, but one that will last forever and the tan leather is great for all season’s as well as work and play.

Christmas Day Dress

Tuesday, December 16th, 2008

ASOS Satin Bow DressChristmas Day is a tricky one when it comes to clothes. Whilst most of us would happily slouch about in jeans and a cosy jumper, the festivities usually require a bit more effort than that, especially if you’ve got your entire family round for lunch! And of course you need something that’s not too tight round the stomach to leave room for all that turkey!

This Satin Bow Dress from ASOS fits the bill perfectly. The shiny, satin material gives a smart look, as does the bow detailing and pockets. The smock shape means it’s loose enough to curl up into a ball on the sofa, and pack away the Christmas dinner. It comes in black, grey/silver, or this season’s most popular colour, purple. Add some black opaque tights and a few necklaces and bangles and you’ve got yourself a smart but practical Christmas day outfit.

The Satin Bow Dress costs £27.14 from ASOS.

All Saints Gift CardWhat tidings of great joy All Saints bring this Christmas! A great gift idea I’ve just come across is this rather handy and generous gift card promotion from All Saints – spend £150 on a gift card and they will add a further £50 of value to the card!

So, if you were after one for their great items for chrimbo then you could ask your kind gift bearer to get you a gift card first and buy it with that and enjoy the extra cash too!

The cards will hold up to £1000 on them and can be mailed direct to the recipient. Check out the details here.

Cute Dress

Sunday, December 14th, 2008

Frilled DressI absolutely love this frilled dress from Marc by Marc Jacobs – minimal and girly it’s yet another piece that is perfect for work and play.

Team with thick black tights and understated towering heels for instant office chic, adding a hem line length cardy cinched in with a belt over the top to keep cosy.

The back features a really cute ribbon which can be tied into a bow. With the bows and frills, the rest of the outfit needs to be kept unfussy so keep accessories etc either really streamlined and simple, or add tough pieces such as a cropped leather jacket to off set the femininity of the dress.

The price isn’t too bad too bad considering the label; you can pick this up for £230 from Net-a-porter.

The Wet Look Dress

Saturday, December 13th, 2008

Wet Look DressIf you are looking for a show stopping yet understated dress and if you have a figure to die for and just £27.41 in your pocket, this could be the dress for you.

Featuring a low scoop back, this wet look dress is seriously on the sexy side, yet with the goth, rock and punk trends in full throw and new years eve around the corner this is the one time when anyone who has the body for a dress like this can get away with wearing it without too many raised eyebrows!

Slim fit and made of high shine material this is a head turner but if teamed with pretty minimal accessories and killer heals can be a great look (think the Olsen’s style tricks and this can be pulled off no problem).

Available from ASOS, the best thing is the price tag, at under 30 quid it’s a real bargain.

Versatile Clutch

Saturday, December 13th, 2008

Oval Clip Frame ClutchI’ve been on the hunt for a while for a really good versatile clutch which will work for day and night, and I love this leather version by Carla Beeby which fits the bill perfectly!

Featuring an old fashioned clip frame fastening and croc effect leather, this antique finish clutch is great for adding a tough note to soft feminine eveningwear.

However it’s is also pared down enough for day time or low key evenings out too.

Available from ASOS it costs £151.71, which for a small clutch it is a bit of an investment, however the fact that it will be suitable for nearly all occasions makes this worth while!

Pendant Watch

Saturday, December 13th, 2008

Pendant WatchOne of my favourite labels right now is Marc by Marc Jacobs and here’s another example of this label’s ability to make basic items really quirky and cute.

I love this black face pendant watch which will look great worn low and on show. At £122.35 it’s not a bad price either for such a covetable label!

The watch features a cable chain necklace, a clip fastening and embossed logo charm.

The best thing about it is that it doubles up as a great necklace and a watch, making it also a great gift to give or receive this Christmas.

Feminine Sequin Frock

Friday, December 12th, 2008

Miss MilneAnother label I shall be keeping my eye on for unusal frocks is Miss Milne, and here is an example of how great they are at putting a feminine stamp on their designs.

The use of ruffles and soft swathes of chiffon fabric dominate their collection and always seem to create an ultra ladylike effect.

A lot of the sequin dresses I’ve seen tend to look very heavy and edgy and have a ‘hard’ look. However, this is the first I’ve sent hat truly looks girly too.

I love the layerd white capelet upper half of the dress and on the catwalk it has great movement too. Team as styled in the picture with silver heels and bangles.

You can pick this up from £92.98 for ASOS.

Topshop's New 'Wort It' Range

Friday, December 12th, 2008

‘Work It’ RangeIf you’ve ever hankered after a little lycra flash dance style or secretly admired Madonna’s lurex get-up, then Topshop’s latest collection ‘Work It’ will be right up your street!

Perfect for dancewear or for the more daring, even regular wear, the collection features over sized crop tops, leotards, tutu’s and metallic leggings and more.

On a practical level I think it’s great for the street look professional dancers to be able to get some funky leotards and oversized crop tops for dance works outs, however there is a subtle dance inspired trend going on right now and many of these items could be used to build a very cool 80’s inspired look which is very of the moment.

Some of the items are great on a functional level too – the leotards (or ‘bodies’) are great for wearing underneath tulip skirts when you wan to create a seamless smooth silhouette which no attempt of neat tucking in will do!

Check out Topshop’s collection for yourself here.
