The Adaptable Shoe

Friday, October 31st, 2008

Kurt Geiger Gem Stone ShoeIt’s not often that I find a pair of shoes that work perfectly for both work and play, but these jewel front peep toe shoes by Kurt Geiger are a great for just that.

Team with a satin cocktail dress for a night out or with a plain pencil skirt, pussy bow blouse and tight knit cardy with the sleeves pushed up for instant office chic.

Shoes are fast becoming a great way to hit several trends in one feel swoop (here we have 4 hits with satin, peep toes, cone shape heels and cut glass gems) and with the current economic climate I think shoes are one of the top items to invest in.

Dorothy Perkins Christmas 08 Collection

Friday, October 31st, 2008

Doroth Perkins Blue One Shouldered DressDorothy Perkins have just launched their Christmas 2008 Collection, and if you’re looking do a mini update on your wardrobe for the party season, then they’ve got some great pieces that’ll leave you with money left over for Christmas presents.

This Blue One Shouldered Dress is a steal at only £45, and will definitely have you looking scrubbed up nicely any kind of party. The deep midnight blue colour ties in with this season’s jewel colours trend, and the corsage on the waist looks like it’s straight out of Sex and the City. The one shouldered look makes the dress stand out from all the sleeveless dresses around at the moment, and means it’s sophisticated enough to wear to a really formal event.

Team it with black tights, or if you’re feeling brave (and you’ll be inside!) bare legs. Silver is also a great colour to pair with midnight blue, so maybe opt for some shimmery silver eyeshadow and accessories. If you can get your hands on some midnight blue heels they would look great too.

If you fancy stepping out in this dress then snap it up quickly, as other pieces in the collection have already sold out.

Satin Lace Up Platforms

Thursday, October 30th, 2008

Primark Satin Lace Up PlatformsPrimark are spoiling us with their Winter shoe collection and the latest pair I am hoping to snap up are these satin lace up platforms. Featuring the all important satin material, these shoes are perfect for the New Cocktail trend as well as a great finish to both a cute and girly or super sultry LBD.

The ribbon lace ups also nod towards the gothic chic looks and the cut out detailing, peep toes and platform sole are very of the moment. With a price tag of just £15 these are a very cheap chic way to update your shoe collection!

Stitched Slipper Booties

Thursday, October 30th, 2008

Woolenstock Stiched Slipper BootiesThese stitched slipper booties by Woolenstock look really snugly and are the perfect choice for keeping warm and toasty at home. We’ve all become so used to living in our Uggs that it’s sometimes hard to take them off when you get back indoors, so a quick change into these type of bootie slippers seems like a good idea to me.

The hanging pompoms, stitching and embellishments make these cute with a folk feel – so you can even be bang on trend nesting in front of your favourite tv show.

You can get your own pair from ASOS for £75.

Designer v Highstreet: The Mock Croc Bag

Thursday, October 30th, 2008

Croc BagsFirst came zebra, then came leopard and now in has stormed croc – we love to draw inspiration from the animal kingdom in our clothes and this season it seems our bags has been taken over by mock croc materials.

Sophisticated and patent they give a polished look to the handbag and if you get one in the form of a tote – you’ll be able to fit everything in there including your laptop.

I really like both of these bags; the designer version is from Net-a-porter and is an Alexander McQueen Stamped leather tote and features a sumptuous Merlot colour, a stamped croc effect, a plethora of zips and buckles, feet on the bottom as well as lots of brass hardware. At £965 it is on the steep side so you could always make do with the high street option from Primark, at just £8 this mega mock croc bag is every bit the bargain you’d expect.

A New Twist on the Bow

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008

Maison Martin Margiela Bow CuffIf you’re after a great piece of statement jewellery, or a fabulous Christmas gift for a girlfriend this delightful bow bracelet from Maison Martin Margiela could be what you are looking for. Gifty and festive, this won’t appeal to everyone, but certainly caught my eye.

This is a refreshing twist on the ever-so-popular bow craze and somehow despite the almost gawdy appearance, I think remains quite elegant. This cuff just slips on and at its widest point, spans 6cm so it’s a chunky, statement piece.

You can pick one up for £225 from Browns.

Winter Wellies

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008

Cath Kidson Paisely Print WellieI don’t know many girls without a penchant for all things Cath Kidson – we all seem to be a sucker for a cute floral print. So keep your toes dry with these pretty rose wellies this winter!

For years I went without wellies in my wardrobe and now I have a pair, I can’t imagine how I ever lived without. Even if they never see mud or experience festival life, they are an absolute must-have for those annoying supermarket dashes on rainy weekends where you want to avoid wet feet, sodden hems or risk damaging your Uggs. Hop into your wellies feet first and not only will you stay warm but you can also have a cheeky splash in a puddle or two as you go about your way.

This particular pair also come in a whiter fresher floral print as well as a cobalt blue print with white mini polka dots. Pick yours up from ASOS for £40.

The Front Ruffle Dress

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008

3.1 Phillip Lim Ruffle Front DressI am a huge fan of Phillip Lim and I love this latest offering from his label 3.1 – the front ruffle dress. The ruche shoulders and simple round neckline give the top half of the dress a prim and old fashioned feel, but the ruffle front ruins this allusion and hoiks this dress into the 21st century and beyond.

This dress is punchy and confident and if you thought there was enough drama going at the front the back is joining in with a sheer illusion panel and exposed zip – anything but prim. It also features hidden side seam pockets and 3/4length arms, it’s got it all going on.

The midnight blue hue is gorgeous and so complementary to all complexions and hair colours. Team with sharp understated accessories and shoes. Get your 3.1 Phillip Lim Ruffle-front shift dress from Net-a-porter for £495.

Ice Necklace

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008

Karen Millen Large Ice NecklaceAs we all know it’s all about statement jewellery this season and for those of you opting for an understated dress for your Christmas party may wish to opt for a statement necklace to set it off.

I particularly like this cable chain ice necklace from Karen Millen. Featuring the cut gem stone look, made popular by Burberry at their A/W 08 catwalk show back in February, and a mirrored stone setting, this is bling kept stylish.

For £85 it’s an investment piece, but I think one that could be worn again and again. I particularly loved the way Burberry styled theirs; by wearing them at their longest over the top of their coats and scarves, bringing a fabulous twinkle to their outerwear.
